Friday:
Hot Shower,
Kent BK4
Trumpers Lime Cream
Merkur HD with IP, day 3
2 pass, WTG, XTG,
wwr,
cwr,
Alum bar with almost no sting,
wwr,
Skin food.
Close shave, it's no 3 pass, but zero irritation this time. It really seems as though it's the against the grain pass that's causing the irritation, yet I really like the close shave that gives. Will keep going for a week or two like this, and move through the sampler pack, then come back and try again when going through the blades a third time.

Much much easier to use than having to soak that bloody Norton 4k/8k for 20 minutes. I can just whip it out of the bathroom drawer at any time and do several laps with a bit of lather or water on the surface. Cuts nice and slow which is great for a honing newbie such as myself. I noticed a big difference on my carbon-steel Dovo Astrale right away, but as for the Friodur it just seems to stay the same level of sharp no matter what I do. Not that that is a bad thing as it is very very sharp. Once every 2-3 weeks I run it over the hone several times for good measure without any large noticeable difference on the edge...it just stays sharp. I figure this is better than letting the edge get too dull and having to do more work on it. Great razor.EL Alamein wrote:Richard, how do you like that Belgian made edge?
As for the actual edge quality with different hones, couldn't exactly tell you. I never had much luck with the Norton which turned me off straights for several months.

I agree. I only use my Norton now for heavy lifting - dull or damaged razors. For my own it's Belgian all the way as has been for many a year now. I've tried a lot of hones and the Belgians, Eschers and Thuringens are by far the best IMHO.rustyblade wrote:

Apologies for hijacking the thread.

Got up late (watched too many episodes of B5 last night), so:
No hot water for the scuttle, just splashed my face, rubbed on the Erasmic stick, and lathered with Th' Sheddah. Two passes: adequate shave, one I'd have been ecstatic about with the old electric.
BTW, the flower is called Love Lies Bleeding -- not the best for Shave of the Day, I suppose.
