This Lavera AS is really good, but without alcohol.
The K-Classic balm is a cheap supermarket line but also really good.

Pre-Shave: Hot towel, hot towel and lather
Razor: 1914 Ever Ready pat. pending
Blade: GEM single edge
Brush: Generic badger brush
Soap/Cream: Williams/Toms of Maine
A/S: Nivea for Men Sensitive Lotion

Second day shaving with my new toy. Realized today that the angle is not the same as the traditional GEMs. Got a great three-pass shave, but a little more irritation on my neck than usual. I'll either take tomorrow off or shave with a Gillette.

Feather AC/Pro Super
Rooney 1/1 horn super
Cacharel Soap
Lucky Tiger Tonic

Here I am in a hotel room in Tallahassee, and what do I find in the bottom of my toiletries bag? Why, it's a Feather AC! Why not shave with it? I asked myself. We drove here, by the way, so no "straight razor gets past TSA screening" headlines...

I hadn't used it in ages, but I found the touch came back almost immediately, even with the left hand.

Monday

Gillette black-handled adjustable w/Merkur Super Platnum blade (2nd shave)
Coral Skin Food pre-shave
Vullfix OEM best-badger brush
C&E Sweet Almond Oil Cream
Em's Place alum block
Coral Skin Food post shave
The Body Shop Razor Relief
My Nik is Sealed

This is my second shave with my first ever Merkur blade. I rushed my third pass and got two small niks on my right neck, another small one to the right side of my mouth, and a bit of rash on the left side on the neck. Nothing that the alum block and My Nik is Sealed couldn't deal with but I will take my own advise and take more time tomorrow morning.

Prep: hot shower, conditioner, Proraso crema pre barba
Brush: Shavemac silvertip
Soap/Cream: Williams soap + Musgo Real
Razor+Blade: 1956 SS + Dorco #5
Passes: 3: wtg, xtg, atg
Post: Alum block, proraso crema pre barba, Nivea for men extra sensitive AS balm

Result: A-. Nice comfy shave. Not perfectly smooth in a couple of patches but no big deal. Great superlather. The shavemac holds so much water I have to really shake it out before starting the lather: I did so today with good results.

Yesterday's shave was "Sunday Bloody Sunday'. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but the right side of my chin was red, sore, and bloody after yesterday's shave. So today I had to use something that had very little chance of a nick.

I got a surprisingly good shave with the M3

Saville Row 3118
AOS Sandalwood Shave Soap
Merkur HD w/ Swedish Gillette
Booster Oriental Spice AS

As good as the "good" non-tallow soaps are (GFT, Floris, T&H, IK,...) there is just a notch more body, creaminess, whatever, to the tallow-based soaps. Excellent shave, face feels great.

Trumper Astor Cologne (just got this and love it)

Monday Morning:

PreShave: Hot Shower
Razor: Merkur 38c
Blade: Israeli Personna (Shave #1)
Brush: Kent/Altesse Pure Badger
Cream: Palmolive (American)
A/S: Aqua Velva Ice Sport
Moisturizer: Trumper's Unscented Moisturizing Lotion
Cologne: Preferred Stock

I'm starting to think that maybe my Merkur is a bit too aggressive for my face at the moment. I got some irritation with this shave and the shave itself wasn't very clean. I need to refine a few things but I'm not sure what.

Monday: 04 Feb 08 ~* SOTD *~

Brush:...........Rooney 'Super' Silvertip style 3 size 1 (faux horn)
Cream/Soap:..Kent / MWF soap
Razor:............Gillette English Aristocrat # 16
Blade:............Gillette Platinum "Swede" (3rd day for current blade)
After Shave:...Thayer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel, followed by Corn Husker's Lotion

Today went better than yesterday. I got closer with less effort. I still got a little red, but that could be from yesterday's not so good shave and not allowing enough healing time. I think I am having to relearn this razor, as technique for the "Swedes" seems to be a little different than the milder blades. The jury is still out on this razor/blade combo.
