  • Prep: Rite Aid Skin Cleansing Cream & Hot Towel
  • Brush: Ever Ready 300 refurbished with silvertip badger knot by The Knotty Badger
  • Cream: TSD Bamboo & Teak
  • Razor: '31 Gillette Goodwill
  • Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge (shave 11)
  • Oil Pass: Leisureguy's Last-Pass Shave Oil
  • A/S: Thayer's Lavender Witch Hazel Toner & Nivea Extra Soothing ASB
  • EDT: TSD Bamboo & Teak

  • Result: Great, great BBS shave today. Unbelievable when you consider this is shave 11 for the yellow 7 O'Clock. Hand stropping after each shave does do some good I would say. The Bamboo & Teak scent is great too. Still hanging in there at noon and I expect it to last all day. Oh, yeh, not a drop of blood today. My technique was absolutely perfect I guess.

Tuesday:

Gillette LH adjustable & Swedish Gillette blade
Simpson Duke #2 Best
Connaught Lavender shave cream
D R Harris's Pink A/S
Floris No 89

Well, unlike some recent 'own brand' website creams I've tried, the Connaught lathered up easily and fully enough. But, like some other commercial creams I've used, the lather seemed too thin, too wet, at least for my taste. I used the same amount that I do with Taylors etc. and the same process and equipment. Perhaps one could diddle with the ratio and somewhat resolve this....maybe....but for me, I didn't have the time or desire to mess around with it. I just added a dab of Coate's to it and went on to have a very pleasant shave. Like some other own brand creams, the scents of the two Connaughts I have are quite nice but the lather just didn't do it for me. Of course, I'm quite curmudgeonly and picky.

Gordon, interesting perspective. I find the lather from these creams on the verge of too thick. It may be a water issue, though, as I suspect your water is even harder than mine.

Tuesday

Razor: '61 Gillette Fatboy
Blade: NOS LB Wilkinson
Brush: Plisson HMW #10
Cream: Coates Almond
A/S: Lucky Tiger Tonic
Edt: Floris Sandalwood

I picked up the Fatboy at a trade show this past weekend for 10 bucks.
It has a little pitting on the doors and handle but it polished up smoothly. If I don't like the razor it should make a nice PIF.

Tuesday

Gillette SS Red Tip
Wilkinson Light Brigade
Simpson Polo No. 8, Best
Trumper Rose Shaving Cream
Trumper Coral Skin Food
Trumper Spanish Leather Cologne

This tube of Trumper's Rose is apparently from a "bad batch". I've tried it with my usual amount of water and less than usual, and with two different brushes. The lather it produces is way too thin regardless of combination. I'll store it for awhile and see if the quality improves after some time.

The pots of Trumper Violet I have used, as well as tubes of Trumper Lime and Violet have been superb.

All the best,

Buck

Buck, I'm not sure that 'laying it down' for awhile will work when the cream is in a tube rather than a pot. Let us know when you finally get around to re-opening it, say around the Holidays.
