  • Prep: Rite Aid Skin Cleansing Cream & Hot Towel
  • Brush: The Ever Roddy 300
  • Cream: SCS Verbena
  • Razor: '05 Gillette Old Type with Double Ring Handle
  • Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (shave 8 )
  • Oil Pass: Leisureguy's Last-Pass Shave Oil
  • A/S: Thayer's Lavender Witch Hazel Toner & AOS Lavender ASM
  • EDT: SCS Aspect EDT
  • Result: Great BBS shave with the Double Ring. The SCS Verbena cream does a nice job making lather that helps the razor glide over my face and neck. No blood on the Halloween morning. Sorry Count Dracula but you will have to go somewhere else for you breakfast  Happy Halloween to the wetshavers of the world.

Saturday Shave

Post by Nick Freeh »

Saturday, October 31, 2009

Happy Halloween!

Razor: Merkur Progress XL
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
Brush: Vulfix 2234 Super Badger
Soap: Valobra soft soap (Crema di Sapone)
A/S: Ogallala Bay Rum and Sandalwood splash

First time I’ve used Valobra--I found it to lather easily, and I like the nice, subdued almond scent (not as subdued as Cella, however). The shave was comfortable and effortless--and BBS. I’m very pleased to have Valobra join my soap rotation.

The Ogallala A/S provided an excellent finish and its scent did not clash with that of the Valobra.

Good Saturday afternoon

'73 Superspeed w/ 7a.m. Platinum
E.J. BBB
Mem sc
Thayers Original WH w/ aloe
Murray & Lanman Florida Water
Anherb a/s balm
Floris Vetiver (decant)

Great BBS shave with the Mem sc and a fresh 7a.m. platinum in the superspeed. First time with both the cream and the blade and it was definitely a winning combination.

Saturday:

Simpson Duke 3
Schick Krona w/ Gillette French Swede NOS
Charles Tyrwhitt Cedar & Lemon Shaving Cream
D R Harris Pink A/S
Penhaligon's Racquets

Well, this was just a great shave. My Simpsons brush seems to have stopped shedding after shedding 1-2 hairs per shave for the past year! I am quite happy about that.

The Charles Tyrwhitt shave cream is just top notch. The scent is simply amazing and the cream lathers just like any other top shelf English cream.

And the blade...oh the blade...I will write more about these in the blades section, but after 6 shaves, it is still going strong.

Saturday

Razor: Merkur Futur on 1.75
Blade: Iridium Super
Brush: Rooney SMF Special
Pre-Shave: Kell's Original Turkish Mocha Pre-shave Soap
Soap: MWF
A/S: TOBS Mr. Taylor

The Futur/Iridium combo with MWF never fails to deliver an outstanding shave. Today was no different and the Mr. Taylor was nice as always.

SATURDAY

Schick Injector “L” w/Personna 74
Irisch Moos-many thanks Lynn!.... :D
Rooney’s Finest 1/2
Witch Hazel w/ EO
Knize Forest

First time I’ve tried the IM; I graded into a shave mug and it packed very well. Very similar to Tabac (it’s made by Maurer & Wirtz) in terms of lather and cushion with a nice “woodsy” fragrance. Good stuff!.... :D

That was one hell of a fine shave. Taylor Rose cream, Lady Gillette, and the other usual suspects.
