Good Monday morning all...

Gillette Fat Handle Tech w/ Feather
E.J. BBB
La Toja shave stick
Thayers Original WH w/ aloe
Floid Vigoroso a/s
Anherb a/s gel
GFT Spanish Leather

Another DFS from the Tech/Feather...I like using the La Toja stick as it gives me a chance to face lather. It leaves my skin feeling good as well as providing great lubrication for the shave. The Spanish Leather
seems right to finish the shave.

Semogue 2000
Harris Almond*
Merkur 1904**
Racer blue box
DR Harris Pink
L'Occ. Vetyver

*first time with the Harris soap in a while. Still love the scent, and no olfactory issues, but Valobra's lather is better than what I got today. Will test it out a few more times this week.

**great maneuverability and a comfortable razor to use. Very different to the Barberpole, my only other Merkur

Good morning. Monday:

TV Superspeed w/7 O'Clock Black
Alibaba, medium
Blenheim Bouquet soap
Thayer's Lavender witch hazel
Harris Pink

I sunk the puck of Blenheim in my scuttle with the hope of kicking the not insignificant olfactory qualities of the soap up another notch., Succes was achieved. :)
Best,
Chris

Monday Shave

Post by Nick Freeh »

Monday, November 9, 2009

Razor: EJ Chatsworth
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
Brush: Vulfix 2006 Pure Badger
Soap: Cyril Salter
A/S: Dickinson’s Witch Hazel/Speick Splash

I quickly and easily worked up plenty of lather this morning, keeping it warm in my lathering cup. I love the fragrance of the Salter soap. The Chatsworth mowed down the stubble smoothly and 3 passes plus touchup gave a very comfortable, irritation-free, BBS shave.

The WH/Speick combo produced an extremely fine and relaxing finish.

Razor: Parker 11R
Blade: Iridium Super
Brush: Shavemac 22369 Long-Handled Super
Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
Cream: Taylor Avocado
A/S: Royall Bay Rhum

I had been neglecting creams lately but now that I have a cool cream brush they are back in the mix. The Shavemac 22369 and Taylor Avocado combination was excellent although bowl lathering was a definite change of pace and I felt rusty. I enjoyed an outstanding shave but I am coming to the conclusion that the Parker 11R may be a bit mild for my tastes. Although I eventually achieved a BBS shave, it required more touch-up than usual. The Royall Bay Rhum was a very refreshing finish (must be the touch of menthol).

Rooney Alibaba Medium
MWF
Moss Scuttle
1947 Aristocrat
Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow
Blue Stratos AS

Even thought the scents of soaps and AS's are not long lived, the MWF and the Blue Stratos did mix in well. Faceturbating is going to be satisfying this morning.

Good day, Monday.

Muhle R89 with Derby
Vulfix boar brush
Speick shave soap
Musgo Real aftershave
GFT Spanish Leather cologne

Musgo Real a/s is great stuff - very moisturizing for an alcohol based aftershave. The scent is also nice and goes great with my GFT colognes...

Tim - interesting that you find the 1904 comfortable... I found it the opposite. I sent mine back for quality control issues and didn't shave with it, but I knew from just holding it that I wouldn't enjoy shaving with it. Found it awkward for some reason. It's a shame too, because I love the looks of it.

Monday November 9

HD/7 O’clock Yellow (5)
Tabac
Omega 80267
Thayers w/aloe
A.V. Musk

A nice shave, but not perfect. The 7 O’clock was on its last legs. I probably should have used a fresh blade today. I experienced a bit of irritation on my jaw line, and just under my jaw line. I think is left over irritation from some hasty ATG touchup I did yesterday.

Today was day six of my bowl lathering experiment. I used all of the soaps that are consistently in my rotation at least once (I used Tabac twice), and used two out of three of my brushes. The results were interesting. I produced a noticeably different lather with a bowl than I ever did while face lathering. With all of the soaps, the lather was airier (and probably thinner), but not to a point where it negatively affected the shave. I plan to continue bowl lathering for another week or two to see if I continue to enjoy the results. I’ll probably throw in an occasional face lather as a control, to remind myself of my preferred method of lathering.
