After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

1964 Macys badger
1958 Executive/Iridium
J Peterman 1903 SC
Lumene AS balm
St Johns 'Bay rum/grapefruit' cologne

I'm happy to say this brush has calmed down quite a bit from when I first tried it maybe 5-6 shaves ago. Only dropped 3-4 hairs the last couple times, which is a lot better than 10 or more......heh. I can't complain though, since it was very reasonably priced and still performs fine. Fun to use on occasion.

I'd say the J Peterman SC is one of the best creams I've tried. The lather reminds me of Penhaligons, both with ease of lathering and shave performance. Post shave skin care is better than average, and I also like the fragrance. Sadly, my 7 ounce tub has only enough product left for maybe two shaves. Heh, I'm waiting for their semi annual sale before reordering.

All in all, a very fun hygienic adventure this morning, with BBS results.

E.J. Chatsworth
Bolzano Superinox
Omega #20086 (the “Bambino”) Boar
Valobra SS
Dickinson’s Witch Hazel
Proraso A/S Balm

I was amazed at how great this morning’s shave was. I used the “Bambino”, a tiny boar brush which I had purchased last summer as a travel brush and then had pretty much forgotten about it. It had hardly been used, but it produced enough creamy lather for my customary three passes + chin area touchup without returning to the soap to reload the brush. Maybe the success was due to the Bambino recognizing Valobra as its Italian paisano. Anyway, I guess face lathering is the more accepted way of using a boar brush, but I bowl lathered and didn’t look back. The result was near BBS and now I’m motivated to try the Bambino with other soaps having travel potential. Next time, I’ll try face lathering because I don’t really want to pack a bowl for travel.

I decided to add to the Italian content of the shave by ending with Proraso A/S balm, which proved to be an excellent finish.

Saturday:

Gillette Model #58 & LB Wilkinson blade
Omega boar
D R Harris's Rose shave cream
D R Harris's Pink A/S
Trumpers Spanish Leather

Since I was near the end of my sample of this excellent cream anyway, I went ahead and got really generous with the amount used. This resulted in having no problem with adequate lather for the complete three pass shave, although there was still none left over at the end. Lather quality with this cream was decent but not quite as dense as I'm used to with badger brushes. I probably have an advantage in that I whip up lather in a bowl as a matter of course with creams and use mainly a 'paint brush' lathering style. Trying to adequately 'face lather' with this brush is a challenge I'd just as soon skip.

I never could get satisfactory results from any of my boar brushes, I just figured it was operator error. I know some guys swear by the boar brushes.
