Muhle R41/ Rapira blade
Thater '1' Silvertip
I Coloniali soap (first use)
Nivea Sensitive balm

What a unique soap this is. The consistency is somewhere between a hard soap and Cella; pliable, clay-like. The scent is disconcertingly foody, and quite overwhelming upon first use. The menthol content, often described as minimal, was for me, pronounced. Not ideal in mid-November. The lather, however, is excellent; wonderfully wet, glistening abundant creaminess, providing superb cushion and slickness, and a nice soft, irritation free post shave feeling (iciness notwithstanding). I can certainly envision this soap as somebody's ideal - its downsides are subjective I suppose. The scent and the menthol content are not really my cup of tea though; I'll likely sandwich bag it and perhaps give it another try in the summer.

Chris, glad you're digging it. I'd have felt bad after talking it up if it didn't impress. I'm going to use my Provence for the weekend. Assuming no irritation after extended use like that, I am going to really consider exclusivity with this for soaps and Alraz Bombs for creams. Not that I have much else left except for 60 or so Arko sticks and 80+ Palmolives. But even those beloved favorites might at least go on indefinite hiatus.

For variety?

Friday AM: Menthol Day Bigtime!!

Blazingly hot towel for a few minutes (multiple immersions to keep it hot)
Bigelow Cream w/added menthol
Rooney 3/1 SS
Gillette '40s gold Tech
Polsilver Super Iridium (1- blade test)
Menthol AS

An extremely comfortable BBS. I don't think I could cut myself with this razor if I slid it sideways! Or so it felt anyway, I don't intend to test that. I finished up the face freeze with more menthol. Very nice feel.

While it was a BBS, typical of a mild razor BBS, it doesn't look BBS. I have no doubt that in a few hours it'll be a DFS whereas a BBS with a razor capable of a 2 pass BBS would last almost 8 hours before growing back to a DFS.

The case for multiple razors as I see it: (assuming one uses aggressive razors)
A few months ago I mothballed my mild razors once I realized how much I loved aggressive razors. I didn't think mild razors would ever again be useful to me, and why have them available if I wasn't going to use them? OK, so I've been realizing something. When I return to a mild razor I'm forced to get technique perfect if I want a BBS. It's not just a matter of multiple passes. Because of the miniscule blade exposure, angle is absolutely critical. Where I'm going with this is, it's a mini course in forcing good technique. Those months ago I brought my mild razors out of retirement and I'll keep them available. I'll return to them periodically for the fine tuning of my technique. Mild razors have their place.

In my defense, at least 10 of each were freebies I got at one time or another from Govanni or Phil with large orders. So I only bought 50 of one and 70 of the other...er...

... in the hands of a Puerto Rican Jew! No, really!

The ax: Weishi gunmetal
The blade: Feather (1st outing)
The brush: Col. Conk (i.e. Vulfix) pure badger
The lather: Old Spice Lime cream from India
The rinse: Generic hamamelis
The piece de resistance: Pinaud Clubman Reserve

A two-day stubble was cleanly mowed by the Feather. This was a most comfortable shave, just a bit short of BBS I judge. :)

I wonder what tomorrow will bring with Feather, round 2?
