Pre-shave soap: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
Razor: Merkur 23C
Blade: Voskhod Teflon
Brush: Simpson Colonel X2L Best
Soap or Cream: Tabac Soap
A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Tabac Splash
Ahh...Tabac--it never disappoints me. It took a little while to get used to the scent when I first started using Tabac, but it has grown on me and the soap has become one of my favorites. I consider it a classic and I hope they don't start messing with the formula.

Friday morning:
KMF cool mint with added menthol drops
Semogue 1438
EverReady 1919
GEM SS ptfe (18 and canned afterward)
Menthol AS
I finally decided to can the blade. It still produced a good shave, but I was beginning to get too much drag.

Becker scuttle
Homemade frankincense & myrrh preshave oil
Somerset Simpson Polo 8 Super brush
House of Croydon shaving soap
iKon Modern Bulldog razor
Gillette Platinum Plus blade (5)
Penhaligon's Hammam Bouquet aftershave
It required 4 passes, but I'm BBS. And I'm finished with the House of Croydon soap trial - which really was kind of a trial....

Nick, I agree. The day they desecrate Tabac is the day that I will have truly lost all hope for this world. This is really the only soap I feel this way about, don't get me wrong, I hate all reformulations, but with all the reformulations that they throw at us, I always tell myself, "At least we still have Tabac."Nick Freeh wrote:Friday, December 16, 2011

Razor: iKon OSS
Blade: Gillette Super Thin
Brush: Thater Porter
Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
Cream: Lavanda (factory fresh)
A/S: Lavanda Agua Colonia
A fantastic shave! The iKon OSS continues to impress. I decided to try a few new products today and I am glad that I did. The Lavanda shave cream (factory fresh not the NOS stuff) produced an excellent fragrant lather with plenty of slip and glide. The formula includes both lanolin and coconut oil and it left my face feeling smooth and refreshed. The Lavanda Agua Colonia was a great way to finish the shave.

You might be interested/horrified to know that a member of another board, in email exchange, had it confirmed by a representative of Maurer & Wirtz that they had, indeed, looked into making Tabac with a palm oil base. The rep noted that their chemists found it impossible to make an equal of the current soap using palm oil and had (at least for now), given up. Reassuringly honest, I suppose, but if you plan on using Tabac (or any other soap) for a few decades it may be worth thinking about stocking up a bit.Nate wrote:Nick, I agree. Brush: TGN Silvertip
Soap/Creme: TOBS avacado
Razor: Gillette old style
Blade: Yellow pack Gillette
Pre: none (as a test)
Post: Lilac vegetal splash.
Hair Groom: jeris w/ oil
Result: I read an old shaving manual recently which suggested that if you don't soften your beard before you shave, that you will get a better shave. The theory was that the hairs would be stiff and brittle and thus more accessible and easier to cut. It seemed a bit like the whole cold water shaving thing, which has worked for some. My results were poor, but I was in a rush and my lather suffered for it, so I can't say for certain. I am certain that it was a very poor shave, and, that now that winter has finally hit, and with it, splashes are just too drying for me.
