[quote="churchilllafemme"]Tuesday

Becker scuttle
Homemade frankincense & myrrh preshave oil
Somerset Simpson Case 1 Best brush
Atkinsons shaving soap
Wilkinson Sticky razor
Personna 74 blade (2)
Floris No. 89 aftershave balm

The Case is really smaller than I like a brush to be, but it did a good job on the soap. The Atkinsons, which the guy I bought it from said he bought in 1986 and never used, was surprisingly good, with very good cushion and truly great glide and a pleasant sandalwood type of scent. Overall, on just one use, I would have to rank it right up at the top of my old soaps list alongside Yardley. However, it's also true that the Personna makes nearly any soap seem good.

Wow, John! That is a gorgeous knot on that brush.

Dale, Nice find! There is no reason why the Atkinson's soap from that era, or older, shouldn't be as good as the old Yardley. Both firms had somewhat similiar histories and reputations and often competed directly against one another; for example with men's lavender water during the first half of the 20th century.

Tuesday:
Gillette original SS razor & Gillette Annesy Platinum blade

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 - GEMruary!
  1. Prep: Hot shower; Yardley bath bar
  2. Coffee: Locally roasted Panamanian w/ cream
  3. Lather: Williams Mug Soap (modern) - face lather
  4. Brush: Simpson's Commodore X2
  5. Razor: The Enigma - HFT, G-bar, ???
  6. Blade: TP Gem PTFE (1); 3 passes
  7. Post: Cold water rinse; Captain's Choice Bay Rum; Kiehl's Balm
Happy GEMruary! A month of the Gems with the 27th being the centennial of the 1912 patent. The HFT performed flawlessly, much like its finish. The Williams provided a super slick surface which was perfect for me. Definitely not a thick lather today, but it certainly set the stage well for a splendid shave.

Shave Rating - Splendidly Sublime! God Bless!
