Saturday AM 09-15-12

Ach Brito Glyce preshave soap
Georgetown G4 scuttle
Custom Ivory Persian Jar 2 D01 (21/51)
Edwin Jagger Sea Buckthorn shaving cream
Wilkinson Sticky
Schick Plus Platinum (3)

A good shave. I had a skin reaction yesterday to the F&F aftershave, so I actually skipped it this morning.

Pre-shave soap: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
Razor: Tradere OC (1st generation)
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
Brush: Omega 31025 "Scarlatti" Boar
Soap or Cream: Mitchell's Wool Fat
A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Taylor’s Mr. Taylor Splash

The more I use MWF, the better I like it. This morning’s shave was great, leaving my face feeling moisturized and comfortable. The Tradere, as usual, easily made the stubble disappear and the Mr. Taylor splash provided a very pleasant finish.

Gentlemen, the great Jane Austen said in her novel Emma: "One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other." Which perfectly frames the pleasures of wet shaving with the straight razor that half the world cannot understand — except for those of us who experience it daily. With that in mind, here is today's shave menu:

Razor: Paul Schulze 5/8 round point
Brush: Rooney best
Cream: Castle Forbes lavender
Pre-shave: Castle Forbes
Scuttle: Moss
Face lather
Alum
Witch hazel
Balm: Intitute Karite
Aftershave: Coldinava (Italian lavender)

Sunday AM 09-16-12

Homemade frankincense & myrrh preshave oil
Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle
Rooney 1/2 Faux Horn Finest (24/57)
Penhaligon's Castile shaving cream (vintage)
Wilkinson Sticky
Schick Plus Platinum (5)
Hermes Equipage splash aftershave (vintage)

A great shave. Because one or the other seemed to cause a rash, I skipped the planned Jagger cream and F&F aftershave. Today's Rooney is just about the perfect brush, with fine hand fit, wonderful backbone and flowthrough, and soft tips. The Castile cream is one of the truly great shaving creams of all, in terms of skin care and lathering as well as scent. The Sticky and Schick cut well as always, and the "afternoon in Paris" of the Hermes was a fine finish.

Sunday, September 16th

Razor: Tradere Solid Bar
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium
Brush: Vie-Long Butterscotch Beehive Silver Tip
Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
Cream: Top Secret
Scuttle: DB TSN Bill Bowl
A/S: Alt Innsbruck

I finally broke down and adopted a Tradere Solid Bar razor. The Tradere feels very solid and the slightly shorter handle is very comfortable. The razor is slightly head heavy and it was easy to let the razor do the work. I enjoyed an excellent shave and will be keeping the Tradere in rotation. Very nice indeed!
