Pre-shave soap: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
Razor: Edwin Jagger DE87
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium
Brush: Edwin Jagger Best Badger
Cream: Erasmic (metal tube)
A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, 4711 Splash
I haven’t used Erasmic cream much lately, but I’ve noticed for the last couple of shaves with it that the lather was rather thin and not very abundant. This morning’s shave was similar: apply a fairly liberal snurdle of cream to the damp brush, work it in the bowl, and apply a few drops of water at a time until the lather looks and feels “right”. The lather was still rather unabundant, but adding more water would have made the lather too thin and wet. But I still received a great, smooth shave. I give most of the credit for that to the razor and blade, but it also shows that a really voluminous, thick lather is not necessary for a good shave. The thing that bugs me is that I seem to remember Erasmic producing quite nice lathers when the tube was new (it is now probably 3 years old and almost empty). Could the thin lather be caused by over-the-hill, partially degraded cream? I have other, potted, creams of about the same age that are still going strong.
