Re: SOTD: September 23 thru September 29, 2013
Late Friday evening
Pre: QED French Clay bar soap
Shave Soap: D R Harris Lavender stick
Brush: Omega Boar 81569
Razor: Gem G Bar, with Gem SE SS PTFE (7)
Post shave: Crystal deo as an alum stick
Clubman A/S
Clinique Post Shave Healer
Well, after complaining that 6 shaves from the Gem PTFE blade was one too many, I pushed it to 7, but in a different Gem.
My conclusion is that the issues with my previous shave was not so much with the blade as with the razor.
Tonight's shave also reinforced my sense that a lather built from a shave stick rubbed over the face is noticeably different,
not better, nor worse, just different, from that generated by building lather from the same soap in puck form.
So for 2 1/2 passes, there was plenty of top-notch lather. And the Gem G Bar proved to be a lot less aggressive than the
Clog Pruf, and required a far different blade angle... just as others here have repeatedly said.
All in all, a DFS, with a lot of extra work needed along the jawline and chin. But my fascination with Gems continues!

Saturday-New Razor-New Blade
Prep: Hot Shower
Soap: Stirling Scots Pine Sheep
Razor: ’59 Super Speed Red Tip
Blade: Rapira Swedish SuperSteel
Brush: Omega 10066 Boar
Aftershave: Krampert’s Bay Rum
WTG-XTG-ATG (adjusted angle for my beard a bit)
Stirling Scots Pine today. I really like this soap. First shave with both my new Red Tip Super Speed and with a Rapira Swedish SS blade. I am trying several different “Russians”. The Red Tip and the Rapira both did an excellent job: sharp, smooth, and close. I finished off with Krampert’s Bay Rum.
Come on weekend! Off to San Antonio for new brakes on the truck.
