SATURDAY A.M.
PRE: QED French Red Clay face soap
SHAVE SOAPS: AoS tallow, unscented, 1st pass. Valobra hard puck, Cologne for the 2nd pass
BRUSH: Somerset Simpson Duke 2, best
RAZOR/BLADE: Gem 1912, with Gem PTFE SE, SS (2)
POST SHAVE: Crystal alum deo stick as post shave astringent .... Clubman A/S .... Simpson ASB
Really unusual shave. The first pass, with the AoS tallow was so absolutely fabulous, I decided
to conduct an experiment by switching to the Valobra for a second pass. It too was terrific, easily
bringing me a DFS+ with minimal touch-up and buffing. My test left me convinced either of these
two phenomenal soaps can deliver superb lather, especially with this particular Gem razor.
I also concluded the Gem Clog Pruf is capable of really close shaves, but with a tad more post
shave "discomfort." Not real irritation per se but a tightness and sensitivity the 1912 avoids.
Enjoying wet shaving, again.

-- Saturday--

Prep: hot water wash with Stirling bath soap
Razor: Frankenrazor made of Hallmark top plate, Fatip base plate and Ikon bulldog handle
Blade: Perma-Sharp Super (7)
Brush: Vintage N S Y brush restored with TGN two band
Soap: Palmolive stick mashed into a wooden bowl
Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery G5 in Hamada glaze (used as brush scuttle)
Post: Thai Crystal deodorant alum stick and Thayers's witch hazel

Image

Result: BBS in 3+ passes. Great shave! I love Palmolive and Perma-Sharp Super lasted 7 shaves now. I think this is it for it, but 7 is a good!

I also really love the brushes I made for myself. This is one of them.

Kent BK4
DRH Marlborough soap
40s SuperSpeed
Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow (8!)

Single pass, near BBS. Something about the TOBS Jermyn Street cream (yesterday) doesn't quite agree with me. Not a burn specifically, just a mild next day irritation. Looks like exclusively Cella and Marlborough this week.

Krampert's Finest Bay Rum to finish. Using the good stuff to celebrate Daylight Saving Time. Despite the 4-foot snow piles.
