-- Thursday, September 4--

Prep: Face wash with bath soap and water
Razor: 1922 Gillette Big Fellow with New Improved head
Blade: Walmart Wilkie (3)
Brush: Wolf Whiskers restored with Virginia Sheng knot
Soap: Petal Pusher Fancies Neroli
Scuttle: None
Post: Thai Crystal deodorant alum stick and Thayers's witch hazel

Image

Result: BBS in 3+ passes. Excellent shave. Virginia Shaeng knot I got to restore this brush after an accident with the original knot is not all that it appears. It appears like a two band finest knot and was purchased as such, but it does not act like a two band finest knot at all. It acts more like a pure or best badger with some scritch. The brush is still a good one, but it is more like a pure badger or best badger with slight scritch, not a two band. I am not sure what to do about it. I have never used a VS knot before and now I am not sure I ever will again...

Thursday night:

Razor: Schick Injector, Type M Adjustable (lowest setting)
Blade: Schick Super Chromium

Brush: Semogue 740 (pure badger)
Soap: Mike's Natural, Lime.

Lather made in the soap bowl.
2 1/2 passes

Cold water rinse and AoS Ocean Kelp Aftershave.

I'm trying some Schick Injectors reputed to be mild. The Type M Adjustable is reputed to be "too mild" at minimum setting, which sounded promising to me. It is perhaps a tiny bit more aggressive than the Gillette Injector that a wetshaving friend lent me. I have heard that the Type M is either very mild or quite aggressive, with little-to-no inbetween, but next time I'll try opening it up a little to see if I can get just a bit more bite out of it. I also have a Type N to try after that.

Friday AM 09-05-2014

Georgetown Pottery G5 scuttle
Rooney 3/3 Ebony Finest (26mm/67mm)
Sultans Sandalwood shaving cream soap
Wilkinson Sticky
Personna 74 (7)
Creed Original Santal aftershave (homemade)

The Sultans I used is Sandalwood rather than the Frankincense shown. It is midway between a soft soap and a very thick cream, and it produces very good lather but has virtually no scent.
