I recently purchased "88 Chestnut Street" [1] made by Chatillon Lux and is the aftershave that 4711 should have been. It's light, fresh, and disappears quickly so it's safe for me to use on a workday (we have scent restrictions in my office). I heartily recommend it.

I'd recommend their Fougere aftershave as well but since it's not offered for sale anymore there's no point.

Chatillon Lux Pure Lavender.
Smells more like chamomile to me, which I prefer anyway.

My bottle of Superior 70 is showing about 50%, right on schedule for exhaustion on or about February 1.

Stetson Aftershave Balm
I was clawing through the contents of my bedside table drawer looking for some tire valve stem caps (as one does) and came across this little 30 ml bottle half full of Stetson AS Balm. I'm pretty sure it was at least 25 years old. It had completely separated into what looked like a thin hotel guest soap bar floating around in a clear fluid. Much like a ship in a bottle.
The scent seemed okay, so I stirred it with a paper clip, shook it up, and tried it tonight.
A few lumps came out, but they smeared out okay on my skin. SWMBO even likes it.

The balm version must have been discontinued long ago, because I can't even find an image of it with Google. It does not smell like any other AS I have but I like it, so I'll keep an eye out for the AS splash version. I prefer splashes now anyway.

Trumper's Marlborough. Bergamot, lavender, geranium, cedarwood, sandalwood in 1877 vintage. Thought it would sit well on the old Body Shop shaving cream for men (I'm down to the last dregs of my last tub, and I'll miss this stuff, even if it does smell of wet rot and leather).

L'Artisan Parfumeur Verte Violette. A visit to the past for me, and very welcome. The past is a good place.
