Buddel Suminagashi Steel Razor in Ambonya

Post by ZethLent »

Like Chris and his new 'pet' snake, created by none other than Mastro Livi, I recently got a custom from one of the European craftsmen, Gabor Gunkel in Germany.

This is a 6/8 Suminagashi steel razor in Ambonya scales. I am still touching up the edge to my preferences but we are almost there.

The pictures speak for themself and in actuality this razor in person has much more to offer. What I mean is, the experience of shaving with this razor is very unique. The smell it gives off is very nostaligic to me. It reminds me of when I was in high school and belonged to the local blacksmith guild. The smell when the forge was on and the metal that was all around is a sensation that I loved.

This razor, for some reason, brings back those memories. The raw smell of metal is quite invigorating and very apperant with this razor, and so far I really like it.

Now for some pics.

Nice looking piece, and I really liked your description about the "smell" and its triggering of nostalgia.
