A Seven Day Set of Friodurs

All 8/8

Pretty, eh? There's an eighth one with acrylic scales to go in the pocket on the leather scabbard of my TI travel paddle.

They shave well, but are very light and extra hollow. John Crowley sends them out pretty sharp, and tells me he gets them to that point with a Norton 4k/8k then diamond spray. I touch them up with an Escher, then the Spyderco UF (lapped), then Flexcut Gold on an Illinois 827, then plain leather, and at that point they leave very little stubble even after a single downwards pass. I don't know who grinds them, but I have heard it is someone who moonlights from the Dovo factory. Some of them have imperfections in their grind, but if you refrain from looking too closely with a microscope, the shave isn't affected and what the eye doesn't see the heart doesn't grieve over!

Chris, that's a lovely set.

I hope you don't mind my asking, but how many straight razors do you own?

George,
I'd have to find all my secret stashes and count them too? Best answer - a lot!

Chris, did you collect these over time, or were they done as a custom lot?

Beautiful razors. I normally prefer a 5/8 or 6/8 size, but I really like a full-hollow grind. I may have to check one of these out soon.

Dr. Moss, these are stunningly beautiful! I wish you much pleasure from them always.

Now about that 7 day set of TI Eagles you had that seem to be gathering dust . . . ahem.

I've been resisting the urge to pick up one of those Friodurs. Now I can show these to the wife. Hey look, this guy has eight of em! :x

You're going to tease us with a shot of the wood, but not more of the blade? Wow! That's all I can say. I love my Friodur. Nice set, and good work!

Nice! I have a few of John's 7/8 Friodurs and they have become my favorites. There is just something about the way they respond to my stropping that keeps their edges delightfully shavable. Mine, however, have kept their pristine plastic handles. :D
