Watch Out for This

Use a straight. You know it makes sense.

Watch Out for This

Post by matt321 »

I rotated to another straight razor this morning. Everything was normal till the end. I dried the blade and carefully pushed the blade over to close it in the scales. Surprise, it wouldn't close. The tip of the blade was no longer clearing the spacer at the end of the scales. I stared at it for about three minutes till I figured it out. The spacer pin had loosened and the spacer rotated just a degree or two. That was enough to change the clearance.

I'm glad I was closing it gently when I discovered this. Any way, I have a small ball peen hammer, so I tapped things a little tighter for the fix.

Sadly, too common on new blades. I see it quite a bit.

Good advice.

By "spacer pin," I think you actually meant wedge pin, didn't you?
