The beginning of High Plains Drifter, Eastwood goes to a barber shop. The barber asks him if he wants some lilac water, then proceeds to apply some dry-looking lather on his face. He doesn't even whip up the lather, it looks like they just squirted some foam-in-a-can into the mug.

And speaking of Was Anderson, during the November montage in Rushmore there's a quick shot of Max in his father's barbershop giving a straight razor shave to a cusotmer. It's a pretty desultory looking shave, though.

Hey,

I just watched the scent of a woman; with Al Pacino... Where he is a blind retired Lt. Crnl. and was planning on "blowin his brains out". The last thing he wants is to once again wake up with a beautiful lady next to him in bed. So, in preparation to end his life he live's it up big time, nice hotels and expensive dinners. Finally he goes to a barber shop some where in NY and gets a straight shave and ends the night with a beatiful lady..

Awesome movie... ;)

In Mr. & Mrs. Smith (the 1941 Hitchcock film, not to be confused with the soon-to-be-released "Brangelina" flick with the same title), Mrs. Smith (Carole Lombard) shaves Mr. Smith (Robert Montgomery) with a straight--not once but twice. As she scrapes away, she notes disapprovingly that his barber has been cutting him too close.

Great shave scene in "The Man with Two Brains" with Steve Martin and Kathleen Turner.

Steve Martin plays Dr. Hfuhruhurr who is about to do a brain operation (using is new "screw top" method of removing the skull for brain sugery) on his new bride, Kathleen Turner who had been hit by a car.

Two orderlies who are preparing Kathleen Turner, shave Katheens um.....well.....ah.....hmmmmmm... instead of the hair on her head. Dr. Hfuhruhurr comes in and says "What is the meaning of this?!" and points his finger at it, I think there is a faint splotching noise, too.

I'd rub my cheek on that smooth surface (of Kathleens) ANYTIME!!

For some reason, I can't seem to remember the type of razor or shaving cream they used.

(I hope I am not saying anything that will get me booted off this board)

Simpsons shaving

For those of you that watch the Simpsons, there was one on last night where Homer opens a Chapel to perform gay marriages. Marges sister, Patty, comes to Homer to ask him to marry her girlfriend, Veronica.

During preparation for the marriage Marge catches Veronica in the restroom with the toilet seat up, and then shaving; Veronica is really a guy it turns out because he wasn't a good golfer, so he acted like a woman so he could play against women in the LPGA. When Veronica says that he still loves Patty, Patty resonds "Hell no, I only like chicks!"

I didn't catch the type of razor he/she was shaving with but it looked like a DE.

In the excellent movie Reservoir Dogs, Michael Madsen takes a straight razor from his boot, does a little E-W pass on his cheeks and then cuts off a cop's ear, all while singing Stealer's Wheel "Stuck in the Middle with You".

The Butter Shave

So it's not a movie but it's a sitcom. Does that count?

Anyway, the title of this episode is "The Butter Shave" and Cosmo Kramer finds that using butter instead of shaving cream leaves his face incredibly smooth. He ends up spreading it all over his body, unfortunately, he falls asleep while sunbathing and ends up sauteeing himself. Kramer tries to keep his skin moist but the smell of cooked meat is too much for his hungry friend Newman.

One of my favorite episodes!

I watched this episode yesterday on Fox!
By the way, is anyone willing to try shaving with butter?

No,

I'm not going to try shaving with butter, and frankly, I have never tried shaving in the movies. Wouldn't it be too dark?

Nobody shaving with a single edge or an early wedge-blade safety razor or with an injector? Or a Rolls? Apparently not! LOL!

Late last night on "LoneStar" TV, I saw Bonanza..........

Adam (Pernell Roberts) Cartright shaved with a str8 razor.

His lather was a bit too "voluminous" but he seemed to know haow to handle the blade correctly.

The Graduate

In The Graduate, there's a scene where the title character is shaving with a DE. His mother mentions something related to the intrigue he's involved in with the Robinson family, and it startles him so much that he cuts himself on the cheek. The resulting gusher was likely the result of a syrup packet in the bladeless safety razor, as it just sort of dribbled a few CC's of red goo and then stopped as he made the requisite hissing noises.
