Josh,
Many of the razors sold there are brand new. If you ever do venture out into an older razor like a Gillette DE, remember the part that shaves you, the blade...is always brand new, and when it runs out you can still go get more. Same as the current M3 you have now but with more choices. The handles are generally METAL and can be sterilized if the razor is not mint; many people boil them or use alcohol, just in case. Not to cause you to panic or anything, but it is likely that the M3 you use every morning has just as many germs as most vintage DE's you will find...
Either way, you can get Merkurs and Parkers, etc. brand new.
Good luck and welcome to the boards!

Welcome Josh
Like the others say, do not be concerned about old razors. The only cutting surface is replaceable, just like a Mach 3. Moreover, the other parts of the razor that comes in contact with your skin are non-porous, smooth metal surfaces which are quite easy to clean, shine and sterilize. I would put money on that a properly sterilized old Gillette will have fewer germs than a new Mach 3 which has been perched in your bathroom for a day or two.
