Big Thanks to my Dad

Post by alabamalawyer »

I had to post pics of my Christmas gift from my dad. I had wanted a place to display some of my shaving stuff and had mentioned this to my dad. Well he made the following for me.

And this shot shows how he routed out places for the brush handles to stand (nice detail isn't it).

Anyway a big thanks go out to him. This looks great and has the added sentimental aspect of being made by my father.

Unfortunately, the woodworking skills didn't get passed on to me so my son will have to enjoy this one when he gets old enough.

Chris,

To say that your Dad is a craftsman is a gross understatement. It's absolutely superb. Did he design the case? The curved shelves really set the piece off and makes it unique. Tell your Dad I'm having a bad case of envy.

Now, the big question.

Have you got him back shaving with a DE? I'll bet he never thought in a million years that he would be building a case for his son's DE razors and "old timey" brushes.

Beautiful work. Beautiful Father.

Thanks for sharing these photos.

That is something else. It would cost an arm and a leg retail but you really can't put a price on it since it was made by your dad. Clearly a family heirloom. I could go on and on and that's without even talking about the brushes and razors. Very nice...

BTW, that mug is outstanding. Where'd you find it?

Now that will be a family heirloom!

A lot of your dad went into making that cabinet: A beautiful gift endowed with the spirit of its maker!

Not only for display, it looks very practical as a useable day to day shaving storage space. I'm sure you'll enjoy that for years to come, and in good health!

Very nice! Your father is quite the craftsman.

Now, not only do you have to get your father into DE shaving, but you'll have to get your son into it, too, lest, when it comes his time, he desecrate this fine piece of workmanship with cans of goo and the latest 12-bladed motion-powered monstrosity. :)

Chris, I am glad to read that you now have something to remember your father by. Maybe put an etching or something on the back to commemorate this and pass down through the years. Like you, I possess no woodworking, much less hunting, fishing, mechanical or other skills that are useful to a man, LOL

Well my first thougths are that your dad is a true craftsman and a master at that. Furthermore his design touches look like he read my thoughts without me even knowing that I was thinking of them. Truely a magnificant piece and one that I am sure will be treasured and shown off with pride. I am sure you wake up in the middle of the night and just take a peek at it to make sure it isn't a dream!

Yes, the design was something he came up with. I had something much more simple in mind and had just given some specs on size. The curved shelves and other touches he thought up himself
Have you got him back shaving with a DE?
No. I have tried but he is attached to his electric razor and I can't get him to try out a brush and DE.
BTW, that mug is outstanding. Where'd you find it?
I picked this up from Vintageblades. I got it as part of a straight razor set but I believe it is sold separately.

That's a stunning piece of craftsmanship. And the fact that each time you look at it you think about your Dad making it, raises it from work of art to an entirely higher level.

I clicked each pic and the craftsmanship is outstanding. Heck, he could make a cottage industry here selling them. Also, one picture showed it needed dusting on top, or it is the glare of the lights, LOL. Just kidding.

I just had a thought as I relooked at the pics. Add glass and apothecary-style doors, and this becomes a piece of furniture. Can't believe how nice it is.
