Hmm no instruction sheet... I'd say the buyer will have some remorse and no sale will take place... especially if someone messages him to let him know what a sucker he's been.

you see that the u***m fellow put a bid in from 01:36 onwards to chip away and outbid the 6***s guy.

Then s/he had the highest bid at $207.50.

They then put in two 'protection bids' of $300 and $500 after getting the highest bid.

Now the final guy steps in at the last minute... 20:32:51 4 seconds out from the end of the auction and puts in a wild high bid hoping to definitively win. Maybe even a tonyespo smackdown bid of a million bucks thinking that he'd only pay something slightly over the $207.50 winning bid at that stage... but the $500 bid of the u***m guy gets activated and whammo... you now have a $505 razor :)

Lesson: Even if you are sniping only put up what you are really prepared to pay as a final price... unless you want it at any cost... then bid a million bucks ;)

I won a #66 on my maximum bid the other night. I put in a price of $X several hours before the end thinking I'd lose... the bidding was at $137 or so... I woke to find someone had tried a snipe at 50 cents less than my final bid and I'd won by the skin of my teeth. Didn't expect to win, almost didn't want to win...

I really hate the sniping programs...
They have taken all the fun out of ebay.

I don't bet, but if I did, my money would be on the sale NOT going through based on the bid history.

To clear this matter up I never bid a million dollars. I have bid $1000 twice. They were for razors that I wanted to own and I was willing to spend a grand if I had to. On both razors I got them for less than 1/2 of what I was willing to pay. I love the snipe programs because they allow me to go to bed and not worry about getting outbid when I really want to own something.

My apologies Tony, it is almost an urban legend...

Nevertheless you've given any contenders some valuable information. That to win a razor from you they would have to bid $1001 only... a bargain :)

Or put another way, to make you pay all you can that they simply bid $999 ;)

Incredible! It does'nt look like our secret world (as Michael/Bargepole referred to it) is such a secret anymore! Seems like the GQ/Cigar Afficianado crowd is getting into wetshaving. I've noticed that prices have (generally) doubled from a year ago, with some notable exceptions.
Image I paid $65 for this (H2) last July; it is now routinely fetching $200. If anyone is thinking of selling their vintage Gillettes, looks like now is the time.

You wouldn't want to sell one by any chance?

Does ebay block out bidder ID's by putting *** in the middle of them these days? It's a while since I looked.

If not, that list of bidders looks very odd.

Also - and it's hard to tell from photographs either way, but the razor didn't look quite "mint" to me.

(This from a guy who's never bid more than $50 on a razor, by the way.)

Like Tony, I also love the option of sniping, because you don't have to jack around with penny ante nibbling. You just bid what you think it will take to win, and you wait. If I win, I'm happy, but if I lose, then I say, well I just saved a whole lot of money!. Win-Win!
