"look ma, no styptic!"

Post by TommyDawg »

My first DE shave was this morning! Proud to say, no nicks, cuts, burns or slices. Not a great shave, but pretty smooth. I got to work and found a spot or two of stubble, but not anything too embarassing. I've been wetshaving for quite a while, so at least I had proper preparation. Technique was decent, I suppose. Looking forward to getting better. Thanks to the fine folks here for the tips, etc.

Here's the order of the morning...
hot shower
a little jojoba oil
Trumpers Rose
Meuile Penchil (sp) badger brush
Weishi razor (fresh out of the box)
Dorpo blade that came with it
Musgo real classic aftershave

Very good work. And it just gets better, as you'll soon realize.

Congratulations and welcome!

Just don't graduate to the "look ma, no hands!" school of shaving.

Hey TD, welcome aboard. Were you getting decent results before using the DE?

Absolutely. I could use a m3, a bic or a potato peeler and have a real BBS shave. Good cream, light action, dont wear out any spots at once, etc. I really just got tired of $ for cartridges, only to have them phase it out for one more expensive. I also like the challenge of going with the classic shave. Thanks...

That's great, often guys join here to overcome shaving problems but it sounds you are like me in that I can use just about any shaving tool with good results. Moving back to the traditional tools is actually a step forward in my opinion because they are capable of giving the very best results and are a pleasure to use. Cartridges lack character.

Great job Tommydawg!

I appears that you were born to shave with a DE. Heck, it's in our genes if you think about it.

Keep doing what you are doing and your technique will start to soar but don't try to go for speed. That comes way later if you ever decide to go for the world record!

Fine job indeed.

Regards,

Bill
