I've seen guys store razors in alcohol or oil. Mostly guys who started shaving with carbon steel blades. Come to think of it, I haven't seen anyone actually doing that since I was a kid. Still, it might help a little as even stainless steel will rust slowly. Given the cost of my DE blades, I'll pass.

It's what I thought. Another gimmick that is attempting to empty my wallet...
I'll stick with my gut feeling and leave it alone.
Thanks...

The best way to prevent deposits is to wash the thing.

This was once popular for extending blade life
:
Much cheaper than anything from a catalog.

I have a co-worker that swears he can shave with a Bic for 6 months simply by putting it in olive oil after each shave...
...but for, what, 25-cents a razor, why bother?

Razor Guard has been around for years and I tried it probably 4-5 years ago. It makes a hell of a mess because it is a heavy scented oil. It is almost impossible to rinse off a blade or razor, and it leaves an oily ring around the sink after you shave. It may or may not slow any rust or deposits on the blade, but for me it was not worth the cleanup.

Life is too short not to use a sharp blade and a good brush.

I'm afraid that I went for this at one point, also. My experience matched that of BobS exactly - oily, smelly, a real nuisance. Anyone using any of the materials and techniques advocated at SMF will have no need for this gimmick!

The glass holder looks kind of neat though. The picture looks like and etched glass holder. I wonder if it is actually glass.

Blades are cheap, 7 shaves and toss.
