I'm not able to see the sale of a new TTO razor and blades as unusual, the price isn't exhorbitant, and as far as I know, we haven't seen this kind of marketing since Gillette and Schick used to do it all the time a few decades ago. Instead of TV, it's on the internet. Am I missing something? I like folks who advocate one of my favorite hobbies, and pitch their wares to guys like us who are interested in getting a better and more enjoyable shave. And, I think Harrison is a good dude, too. I think it's all good! =D>

I didn't see anything outlandish either. Sure he's trying to cash in, but lots of other folks are also.

Would I buy one? No. But if it gets others involved in blade shaving I think it serves it's purpose. Hopefully they'll want more information whether they buy from him or not.

Flashy web page, isn't that razor a Weishi? $13 for shipping is a wee bit high.

That's what I'm thinking Marty, Weishi right down to the box and mirror. Also I wouldn't buy anything pitched by this guy, you cannot be a pawn shop owner and an ethical person at the same time.

I think Mark (Mantic) had his picture taken with Chumlee when he was in Vegas. Maybe he had an influence. 8)

Obviously, the pawn shop guy has a certain amount of celebrity status that has a value. There are a lot of folks who watch the show, and that's no accident. One thing is clear, they're not trying to sell you and me a razor. Their customers might turn out to be young people who are interested in getting away from cartridges and disposable razors.

I admit that this may help with getting wetshaving exposure, but I just hate the scaminated execution. Like that nonsense about rinsing the blade better than cartridges to extend the life, and the actor used a terrible angle--he obviously didn't even have a blade in the razor and was just wiping away cream on a pre-shaved face. And the $5 shipping for 12 blades that cost absolutely nothing extra to ship, to where they're charging $13 for something that could be shipped priority mail for $5.15. I don't know, I guess whoever buys it would probably end up looking for more information on how to use it and find how much they overpaid and find real resources--unless the blades are bad and they get frustrated and go back to cartridges.

I used to order those Weishi razors to give away to new shavers and the ones shipped to me already had a pack of blades included.

btafan, I understand what you're saying. As others have said, it's all about the money, when it comes down to it. I'm sure these guys will sell some razors and blades, make a little money, and all it cost them was the time it took to shoot the video and build the website. Now that they've planted the seeds and posted their stuff, they're just cashing their checks as the sales come in.

I would imagine that the shop gets a few people looking for vintage shaving and barber products. If there is demand, suggesting a product that is a Gillette Superspeed knock-off that is affordable makes sense. The shop could buy bulk from China. I would also think people visit their website because of the show's popularity. I saw a billboard on the freeway with the Pawn Stars giving some kind of show/public appearence at one of the casinos around here. I can't imagine buying tickets!

I'm just surprised Rick is still capitalizing on pawn stars at this point. I thought he was overplayed and after all the episodes people have learned that it's all a big money grab even though the show tries to sell themselves as just an honest family trying to make a living. I used to be addicted when it first came out but it's been revealed that a lot of the customers are actors, crew members and sometimes the items were never up for sale in the first place--one party was probably just paying the other for exposure or to help ratings.

And some of the 'experts' were being used to inflate the value of certain 'items'.

I wouldn't doubt it although it seems like real experts would want to keep a good reputation. And the whole way they "call in a buddy who's an expert on this stuff" makes no sense most of the time. They'll call someone in on something they could just google, take pictures of and send to the expert, or on an item that's way too cheap to be worth the time. And the history channel always has them talk about the history behind the item as a minimum requirement to be able to put in on the history channel.

The thing that needs to be remembered here is that this is television...that is, entertainment. Any thinking person watching anything on commercial TV needs to keep in mind that he is being entertained, not being informed. That goes for the news as well...network or cable. It's all entertainment. Don't go to the boob tube for information.

Hey, he could be pitching the latest 7 blade cartridge system, so it's not all bad. I do think the price is too high, esp with the bogus shipping, but this could all be worse. Maybe we can negotiate?
"It's $19.99"
"How about $5? It's just a stinkin Weishi"
"I'll do $15"
"How about $10? Don't you read shave forums?"
"OK, $12, that's my final offer"
"OK, and free shipping, shake on it"
( Cut to Chumlee shaving with it segment, cuts self, Old Man gives him hard time )
