Greater Pacific Northwest meet-up *Saturday Sept 13th @11am*

Post by Mattcb »

Friends and fellow wet shavers; it’s time for a get together of the Greater Pacific Northwest wet shave enthusiasts. We are trying to get together fellow wet shavers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Northern California, and Western Canada. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Join us Saturday, Sep 13th, at 11AM at FADOs Irish Pub. Fados’ features a full menu and a great beer selection.

Address is: 801 1st Ave, Seattle, WA 98104

Join your friends for a fun filled, educational afternoon of all things related to razors and shaving.
Some of the topics covered will be honing, stropping, maintenance of your equipment, and restoration tips and tricks.

Bring your razors, your brushes, your loom or whatever it is. If its shave related we want to see it. Show it off or get a second opinion. Make us jealous.

Bringing friends who are interested in encouraged. You do not need to be a forum member to attend.

Selling and trading allowed.
Hoping to see you there.
Need directions? Have a question? Shoot me a PM and I will get back to you ASAP.

I know I have not been active on this forum, but I have greatly enoyed the information. Especially the Roll Your Own thread. Alas there is only so much time in the day :) I wanted to spread the word as far and wide as possible!

If the mods feel this should not be posted here, or until I participate a bit more I fully understand. Have a great day and hope to see you in September!

That's tempting Matt but a bit out of my driving range.

Well, I will have to take a lot of good pics to tempt you next year. I really enjoyed the one meet-up I attended in Spokane, WA and fully intend to keep this going.

What a shame that you already decided on a place! I was going to suggest you have it here in Maine! :-)

Have fun gents!

I wish I had known about the gathering in Spokane, as it is much closer to my small rural hometown in Eastern Washington. Driving in downtown Seattle is not something I like to do.

My experience finding parking of any kind, let alone acceptable parking, in downtown Seattle has not been good. What can you tell me about parking around the chosen site?

Any chance that you would consider moving the event to a suburb or at least a part of Seattle with easier access and parking?

Let me look into the parking situation. I will post up some links as well. I am also not a huge fan of driving in Seattle, but it is very central to I-5 and AmTrack. I am pretty settled on where it is going to be this year, but am more than open for suggestion in the future.

Alright, here is what I have found out. FADOs itself has a shared common lot behind the pub and on street parking. http://www.fadoirishpub.com/seattle/directions/

There is also a parking garage across the intersection that charges $6 for 10 hours on weekends.

There is no rush to decide if can make it or not, I'm in the process of trying to get some goodies together for drawings, raffles, door prizes or whatever term you want to use. So don't make up your mind until you see the goody list:)

Thanks for checking the parking situation, Matt. That actually sounds pretty good. An adjoining lot is a luxury in those parts and, even if it is full, a nearby parking garage for that price is very convenient. What I don't like are those little pay-lots with their tiny parking slots.

Glad the info helped you out. I agree about the mini parking lots, makes me get white knuckled driving in them and parking.... of course just driving in Seattle can make me like that :(
I am currently working on contacting some vendors and seeing if anyone feels like donating some goodies to the gathering. Fun for us and good PR for them. Win/Win

Quick update: Have a donation of 8 razors for honing practice and as giveaways. Three vendors have also committed to donating some door prizes and goody bag gifts. Looking good so far :)

Less than a month till the meet up. Here is a quick update.

13 confirmed, 6 maybes, and a few possible guest. I expect to get a few more confirmations in the coming weeks as well.

Currently have 6 vendors donating items to give away and 8 razors donated by members to practice honing. There are a few more things in the works as well. Hope to see you all soon.

The countdown is on! 6 days and a wake up until the meet up. I thought I would start wetting your whistle with some of the items you will be seeing.
First up are the donation straights for honing practice. These have had a basic cleaning, pin tightening, and still have oil on them from storage. Some of them are not too bad, some are great for beginners, and some are just plain ugly but they will all be great to practice with.

*These razors are not being raffled away, but will be available for a SMALL donation that will go towards the tip for the service at FADOS. Newbies and peoples who actually honed the razor will have dibs. Details can be worked out on site.*

Next up: So we are going to be honing a bunch of razors right? Well then we may need some tools to help speed up that learning curve. None of these are necessarily required, but have proven helpful to many folks over the years.

*Kits (DMT card, tape, loupe, sharpie) will not be coming home with me and will be raffled or given away at the meet*

This will be updated daily up till and including the day of the meet. Stay tuned!

Our first donation comes from John at http://lashavingsoap.com/. LA Shaving Soaps was kind enough to donate 2 tubs of soap (Topanga Fouge’re and Vanilla/Eucalyptus/Mint), two shaving brushes, and a TON of samples of his shaving soaps.

Next up is the kind donation from Petal Pushers Fancies(http://www.petalpusherfancies.com/). Petal Pushers Fancies has donated a tub of their finest shaving soap (“Briar” Kokum Butter Shaving Puck). I have heard very good things about their products and am looking forward to seeing how it performs for the lucky recipient.

Next in line is Captains Choice “Fine Aftershaves and Essentials”(http://www.captainschoicestore.com/shop/). Captains Choice is well known for their aftershaves and did not disappoint with a donation of a large bottle of Bay Rum aftershave and three sample packs containing 4 of their aftershave scents (North, Lime, Bay Rum, Cat O’ Nine Tails).

*I opened and broke down 2 of the packs for the purpose of the picture. All sample packs will be wrapped in bubble wrap and in a little baggy.*
