has anyone noticed that when using a double edge safety razor with foam it seems to give a cleaner shave than with any type of gel? what do you guys think?

I confess I have never had much luck using gel. Extremely rare for me. I went from the canned shaving cream to the current shaving creams and soaps applied with a brush. I have also used several brushless creams, none of them gels.

there is not much to foam or gel. However, the thing is this.

Gels have the ability to have much much more ingredients added to them. and not all gels come out as a gel or anything.

Nivea Energy with Q10. its like a weird melted ice cream that slowly turns into a lather. it works well. didn't clog my slim at all. I actually LIKED using my slim with it.

Most foams contain menthol to act as a painkiller for the foam. hence they don't seem as nice on the skin. But gels SEEM more like an actual shaving product.

The Gel dries on one side of my face before I can get there causing me to reapply it again. Its Foam for me as it does not dry out while shaving & no need to apply it twice.

I haven't used foam since the late 60's. I didn't like it then and switched to pucks, never looked back.

Years ago I was told to use a gel instead of foam by a dermatologist when I suffered from folliculitis due to disposable razors. I think gel worked better, but I always let it sit on my face several minutes before shaving. However, today I would never go back to either if I had a choice as a brush and quality shave soap work soooooooo much better IMO. You just cannot get the hair to "plump" up as well using a hand as with a brush.
