Amazon has the shocking prices as well. Is this common? Why does it cost so much? How do the prices vary from what it costs those of you who live where it's made?

Gary, isn't it shipping that's driving the cost up? That's what I found anyway. Now when I want the factory version I just wait for someone to come north and bring a cooler full of it. They coordinate with their supermarket to make sure they have enough on hand. Last year my brother paid $19 for a 3 pounder from the market.

When I first went to Amazon, the top item on the list was 2 three pound packs for $192 USD with free shipping. That comes to $32 per pound.

LOL! Well, I would hope the shipping was free! That's just a hair high priced. There are other suppliers if you do a 'net search. They'll still be expensive though. I don't remember the one I saw a year or so ago being $200 for 2 though. It was about half that if I remember correctly and I might not. And each additional one tacked on another exorbitant shipping fee.

Brian, I'm confident I'll be able to find a moderately priced source if I put my mind to it. I am thinking this particular product has a small area of distribution. Clearly not a national brand.

For many years, my mornings started with a Taylor ham egg and cheese sandwich with a cup of coffee. It is a wonderful taste. Every now and then I will cube it fry it and mix it into some scrambled eggs.

Gary, it's definitely not a national brand. It's made in the Philly area and is found (that I know of) in NJ and NY. Maybe other areas close by, but I don't know of it.
