First Impression: Em's Shaving Soap

Gents--

I tried one of Em's (www.emsplace.com) shaving soaps this morning. Its the "outdoor" scent; a number of woody and herby components, though my nose detected primarily pine (YMMV). Listed as a shaving soap, to me it seems like a cross between a shaving soap and a glycerin face soap (in fact, Em notes that it could be used as a facial soap).

Building a lather was fast and easy using my Savile Row super badger. The lather on the face was a bit less "meringue-like" than I'm used to, but I'm usually a cream user (Trumper, Truefitt & Hill, Coates, etc.) so it may have been my unfamiliarity with soaps in general. I should note that I believe I hydrated the lather enough as it did not "dry out" on my face after a time.

Two passes with my Mach3, one with the grain and one chevron-style across the grain. Very, very close...and zero irritation, something of a rarity for me (I typically get a little burn on my neck when I try something new).

After the shave, I had to rinse a little longer than I usually do, as there was a bit of a stubborn residue. Finished up with some Trumper Limes Skin Food.

Bottom line: Em's shaving soap gave me a great shave, very close and very comfortable, and at US$4-$5 a great value compared to the high-end British hard soaps. :D
