prism wrote:Scott is right, use the Palmolive! I did't like the odor either, and I was surprised at the light charteuse color, but the lather and shave was superb!
Is anyone else upset/confused that the brushless cream is white and smells good, whilst the red tube's contents are green and slightly odoriferous?

I actually like the smell of the red stuff

Hmmm, seems like it should be the other way around.

I was thinking of picking up some of this if the one by me has it, but after reading this.... I think that dunking my face in a porta-potty would have a better smell.

"BRUSHLESS SHAVING CREAM"

How could you...Jeremy, Jeremy, Jeremy...Even here we have standards.

You are hereby banished to the goop section of Wal-Mart and will be required to read the label and the contents of every can.

There...that should teach you a lesson.

Jake, if you find a tube, by all means pick it up! It lathers great! Besides, it'll be on clearance, meaning you'll really get a great bang for the buck. Vic

After using everything else in my shaving cream arsenal for the last month or more, I used the Palmolive this morning. My wife said, Oh, I like the smell of that. I just about fell over. To me, Palmolive is an acquired scent at best, and for many, it's a repellant. But she said she likes mostly soapy and clean smells (again, not sure if Palmolive fits that description), vs. florals like lavender and rose, or "food" scents like almond and citrus.

I have two and a half tubes of Palmolive, so I'm set for a good while. But I may use it more often, now that it's met the wife test. Besides, I got a really great shave.

Dave

p.s. Is Palmolive discontinuing the shave cream, or is it just that CVS no longer carries it?

As far as I know, Palmolive is discontinuing production. Sorry. :(

It's a shame,
too.
It doesn't smell nearly as bad as people are letting on. It's just an unscented, plain, real olive oil soap smell. I imagine the "cube" probably smells similar. No frills, just performance.
Just because it isn't "scented" doesn't mean "plain soap"
stinks....

Ive collected, ahem....several, maybe a dozen tubes of Palmolive shaving cream. (Just couldn't resist at $1.88/tube)

The more I use it, the more I like it. I dont think the smell is bad. I sorta like it, now.....otoh, I like o-dee-skunk, too...just kidding.

Seriously, everyone should try Palmolive red or green tubes. If you hate the smell, then pitch it in the dustbin...its cheap enough to do that if you hate it.

Not to continue the scatological vein of this thread, my cube smells exactly like a fresh green cow pat. Not unpleasant, but definitely agricultural.
Palmolive cream is not by any means unscented - the ingredients list 'fragrance' (a word used in its loosest sense in this instance). Nor does it contain olive oil any more. Its scent (?spoor) is 90% slightly turned clotted cream and 10% male adolescent armpit.
I bought what I thought was a six pack of Palmolive red on eBay, but actually got 24 tubes. I shall hoard them until they have collector value and then sell them for shamelessly high, nay, extortionate, prices.

Well, I bit the bullet and bought a 6-pack of Palmolive on eBay. $11.50 including shipping. Twice as many as I would have bought at a store, but the price was hard to beat.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, the wife really likes the scent (she doesn't like rose or lavender, but she likes Palmolive... go figure!). So if she likes it, I'm using it more!

While we're on the subject of Palmolive, has anyone ever tried the Palmolives from India, or Romania? Awesome stuff, lovely scents, and great lather. 8) :)

Ya know I think I would rather eat a bar of Williams than shave with Palmolive!

I'm making an assumption here Chris. By your statement I'm assuming you've actually tried Palmolive (Red Tube). I can assure you there was a buying frenzy (myself included) when we found out CVS was no longer going to carry Palmolive. Then the frenzy migrated to Proraso (myself included) when we found out Target was no longer going to carry that brand.

Palmolive is a very good product (YMMV) plus it was readily available at a reasonable price even before it went on sale. To each his own and everyone has their preference.

And as always...

Enjoy your shave... :) (with or without Palmolive, which BTW I have about 6 tubes left)
