Lush shaving cream

Sunday afternoon I saw and bought a 3.5 ounce tub of shaving cream by the name of Dirty, handmade in Vancouver by a company called Lush, a new retailer located in one of the higher end malls. Lush sells all manner of hand-made soap, lotion, body wash, bath soap, deodorant, etc. The store was packed with customers. The cream looked nice and my wife liked the fragrance, which is usually a plus. Brushless, to be certain. I bought it because of or in spite of two primary reasons, first I'm trying very hard to wait until Bayolea comes out, and second, Ingram Brushless taught me that at least one brushless cream offers more and better slickness and protection than soap and water based hard soaps. Lotion/cream vs. very fine bubbles/lather. The Lush is not expensive, smells just fine, and it works. Too soon to decide how it compares to the discontinued Ingrams, but today's shave gives me hope. I've used it three times now, and today's shave with the Barbasol Floating Head DE and the Personna hu blade was excellent. The first two shaves involved a twin blade disposable. Tomorrow morning's razor will be a straight razor, the 6/8 Clauss.

I considered it myself a couple of times, but was prejudiced when the sales associate said something like "you don't want to use a brush - it's inhuman to all those little animals" or words to that effect. My wife got me out of the store before I blew with a pontification on the merits of wet shaving .... eventually I came to the conclusion that I would have been casting my pearl before swine.

However, I am interested to see how this works for you, Gary. I have had some good and some not-so-good results with many of the Lush products, and they stand behind their goods well. They sell the Dirty cream all over the world, but I didn't think it was made in Vancouver, though.

Wendell, this little tub was made on 03 June 2014, and the corporate address shows Vancouver BC. I'm surprised (and pleased) to learn it isn"t just a little mom and pop operation. When they talk from inexperience about badgers and stuff, I know it's just what 99% of the masses want and expect to hear, and it isn't really germane to anything I'm interested in debating with them about. I could go a couple of stores either way in the same mall and buy a very good synthetic L'Occitane (Plisson) or The Body Shop brush. Then I can go around the corner in the same mall to the Art of Shaving for the higher end Badger brushes. I like the AOS sales attendants in this particular store because they seem to have a pretty good grasp on the stuff that really catches our attention.

This evening's straight razor shave using Dirty shaving cream from Lush seems to have been a success. I was looking for slick and protective, and that's what I experienced. No cuts or knicks.

I was wondering how tonight's shave with the Cobra Classic and Dirty by Lush shaving cream would work out. I made sure to take my time and remain conscious of my technique, and they worked quite well together. I'm starting to feel impressed by this new (to me) shaving cream.

For father's day my grandson gave me a brushless cream called "Man". I haven't tried it yet because I just started a bottle of "Kiss My Face" brushless. He thought Man was the best ever.

The Shavecraft 101 razor/Personna hu blade paired very nicely with the Lush brushless for tonight's shave. I've used up about a fourth of the litle tub, so I think maybe I should keep using it until its all used up in a few more days. If memory serves correctly, I think they sell larger tubs of this stuff at the brick and mortar store.

This morning's shave with the fifth rather aggressive razor in my rotation turned out to be a very good, smooth, and close shave with the Ever Ready Streamline razor and the Gem PTFE blade. It appears that this shaving cream is not a fluke and I think I am going to be happy with it. The surprising fact that it's available locally is very fortunate.

Gary - thanks for sharing your successes with the Lush cream. I had no idea they made it in BC -- interesting.

I own a Body Shop synthetic, and it is scratch-ish and quite stiff. Nevertheless, I find it quite a decent little brush which sneaks it's way into my kit bag due to the very short drying time after use.

Scratch-ish, very good descriptor.

If it is the company's policy to encourage their employees to badmouth shaving brushes generally, then these folks are unfortunately misinformed. Business and politically or philosophically motivated rants by employees do not mix.

it appears that I've been using this new pleasantly scented shaving cream for approximately 11 days in a row. I have used it with all types of my razors, straight razors, double edged, single edge, and disposable cartridges, and there have been excellent skincare and performance on each shave. This has turned out to be a positive slightly impulsive brick-and-mortar purchase, and it was for the best.

Just in case I didn't make it very clear above, for the unsuspecting, this is a brushless shaving cream.

I haven't tried their soap, but I have their cream in the tube. I didn't care for how it smelled, after about two uses. Passed it on along. However, I much prefer the scent of the Dirty brushless cream to Erasmic for sure.

It's pretty good soap and still pretty cheap.

It seems that Lush offers everything online too, plus a few slower moving items that are available exclusively online. I ordered something. Shipping is either $6 or $8, depending on how fast the buyer wants the stuff. I chose the slower method which is trackable UPS and takes 7 to 14 days, considering it has to go through customs. Not bad.

What --- you can't order from the Lush US website for delivery in-country?

When I visited the website I wasn't aware there are separate websites. How would one know? I thought I was ordering from within USA. Actually, I never gave it any thought. Only when I tracked the package, I saw that it originated in BC and then customs, then WA.
