Curiosity - 3 particular soaps

For some reason, I have recently been very interested in three soaps that have been on the radar for a while, but I've ignored them. Probably for the same reason a lot of other guys ignore newly mentioned products: I've got plenty, and I know what I like. Regardless, here they are, and the reasons I'm interested in them:

1. Gron Lycka from Sweden ---Jeff (Jaydee) recently posted a very positive review here.
2. Myrsol Crema de Afeitar from Spain --- I was browsing around and found a very positive review from Ron (malocchio) from a few months ago. This one comes in a 1000g barrel, and is best described as a hard cream or a soft soap.
3. Strop Shoppe soap from Norman Oklahoma USA --- getting a lot of positive reviews elsewhere. I am somewhat embarrassed because this artisan is located in Norman OK, just a few miles down the interstate from where I live, and I'm just now getting around to checking it out.

Best wishes on finding out more about your newest sudsy discoveries. I am headed in the opposite direction of eliminating down to an even more Spartan minimalism. I have done it with razor, brush, and strop. Now need to get there with soap/cream. Pretty much decided on aftershave as well because after all these 8 years now of wet shaving and belonging to the forums, the fragrances I once loved have turned against me and tend to give me headaches and make my stomach ache. Weird but true.

Mike it probably appears to others that I'm pressing on the gas pedal and the brake at the same time, while unable to decide whether to shift into drive or reverse. :D In reality it's just a harmless hobby, and any anxiety I may have wasted over appearing to hoard a few innocuous bits and bowls of soap and cream is unnecessary. Exploration and curiosity comes and goes in direct proportion to my time spent on a shaving forum. (I'm pretty sure that's what happens. ) Here's something I posted about 2 1/2 years ago. Looks like I'm still on track:

I've spent a lot of time and effort, and I've received a lot of enjoyment doing this shaving deal. I use all kinds of razors and all kinds of the other stuff, including soap. I've got multiples of my favorites. Soon I'll make some really good shaving soap from scratch, like grandma used to make a pie, and I'll use it with total abandon. If we aren't having fun, we're doing something wrong. I'm having fun and I'm not doing anything wrong. This is just one chap standing in front of the mirror and shaving off my whiskers once a day so I feel good about my appearance and about what I do. This is nothing other than an inexpensive and innocent hobby, for lack of a better word. I happen to love it. I love interacting with you guys too!

I tried both Myrsol shaving creams, and while the solid version is better then the liquid one, they're still average products at best, both in terms of performance and scent.

Now that I have all 3 in house so I can compare them, the process of evaluation will begin. This'll take a while, and the pleasure is all mine. :)

Oh well, Gary, when in Oaklahoma -- better SOONER than later. Where is your covered wagon?

Enjoy!

The first time I tried to build a lather with the Myrsol I used too much water and too little soap. I didn't do it right. and my opinion based on only one usage, had I foolishly posted it, would have been just that, the product of a fool. It took 3 test lathers to discover the most simple loading of the brush was the key to the magic within the soap. Scent is nondescript, neither good nor bad, just a clean scent that disappears after the face is rinsed following the shave. The performance is superior. My full review will give more details when I get ready to post it. Coincidentally, the lather produced by Gron Lycka is also superior, using the same simple loading technique. To prove my results, I understand objectivity and photos will be expected. I have yet to test lather the Strop Shoppe soap.

Clive, I'll be watching for it. Remember that I'll buy it from you if you don't care for it. :)
