Gents--
I received a 7oz tub of J. Peterman 1903 yesterday, after learning of it from another source. (up till that time, I thought J. Peterman was simply a plot vehicle for the old "Seinfeld" TV series).
The scent is very complex and aromatic; I can't describe it but the box says "old woody fougere...clean citrus notes, clary sage...leather, elimi, tabac...smoky labdanum, frankincense." The cream is very dense, almost a soap. Its texture reminds me very much of Proraso creams.
The shave? Excellent. Very close. I did get a tiny bit of burn on my neck, however I attribute this to inadquate hydrating on my part (I wasn't really aware of the density until after I was lathering. Next time I will add more water).
My verdict? I like it. It will be part of my "top shelf" collection alongside Trumper, Truefitt and Hill, Proraso, and Arran Aromatics.
