Aftershave balm recommendation?

Post by DesertRat »

Newbie here. I've been using Code Blue aftershave gel for a couple of weeks now and absolutely love it. That being said, I'd like to get something a little more....what's the word?...mild? refreshing? soothing? Code Blue is great but sometimes I don't want that numbing effect but want something that is still calming and refreshing. Does any of that make sense?

Any recommendations on some nice refreshing aftershave balms? How about T&H Classic?

T&H Classic

Post by guenron »

I find it to be my go to aftershave baum. Very moisturizing and highly effective at calming razor burn. Nice that it doesn't have a fragrance of its own. No real chance of conflict with your cologne...

I have a small sample of T&H classic. I think it's great. It is very soothing and not greasy.

I also like the Proraso Pre/Post cream.

I keep trying aftershave balms and I keep coming back to Trumper's Limes Skin Food.

I have a reaction to the T&H balm - I believe it has lanolin which many people cannot tolerate.

Coral skin food is nice, but expensive. I also use Em's soothing after shave balm, which is basically a very light moisturizer. Not greasy at all, and very effective. Also dirt cheap.

My two choices are Natureade Aloe80 (good stuff Sam) and/or Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel.

DR,

No, it is not the Ultra Moisturizer. Here is a link:

I agree with Peter, Castle Forbes alcohol-free balms are super. I use them as moisturizers actually.

I also would rank my Floris Santal alcohol-free balm up there with the CF gang. If you are lucky, your local TJ Maxx may have the Santal balm at $5 a bottle (Floris charges $24 I believe).

Cheers,

Who sells the Castle Forbes Aftershave Balms? I know QED doesn't stock them.

Clark,

QED does not stock Castle Forbes balms normally but he can get them darn quick considering where they are coming from!

Hello Mark,

Glad you were successful in snagging that $5.99 bottle of Santal balm. It is really nice; just like the Castle Forbes balms. A steal at that price! My TJ Maxx only had one bottle as well. I am going there later this week. If they have more in, I have to get them!

Cheers,

Evening, After years of trying this and that, D R Harris's Aftershave Milk is the best overall product, for me, that I've found. I have reactions to certain ingrediants, which eliminates a number of otherwise fine products. Since I don't care for heavier weight moisturizers, the Aftershave Milk strikes a nice balance, and is very soothing. About the only aftershave product that I have not tried, that I have any interest in trying, is the Castle Forbes Lavender balm. Is anyone aware of a US source that actually has this in stock? Just found the 1445 A/S balm at www.pipesforless.com for $40. The also have the Dr Harris Milk for $44

Also found both Lime and Lavender CF A/S flavors for $45 at sesto-senso

Outside of The Gentleman Shop that seems to be it. Unless someone can get Charles to import it that is.
