Brush handle comparisons

Post by Johnnie »

Hey guys,

I thought I would go ahead and compare a few handles of the brushes that I own. Please feel free to add your own comparisons of your own brushes.

A nice handle is very important to me. if I am going to spend over $100 for a brush, I would like it to also look nice. I'm not a big fan of the faux ivory handle. Most companies offer the faux ivory handles but Rooney added a litle style to their handle. I like the selection of handles that Shavemac offers as well as Savile Row's Tortuise handle.

I would like to see brush companies get a little more creative with their handles even if they are only faux ivory. Especially the high end companies.

This is the handle i like the most:

Not only for it's shape but also because it's a natural material.

That's the reason why i like this one even more:

A vintage Kent with silvertip hairs and a genuine ivory handle.

Dr. P,

How many brushes would you guestimate that you own? Have you ever counted them? You probably have your own museum.

DrP, thanks for posting the pics! I have always been very interested in seeing up close some of the fine items in your collection. This is brushnography at its finest!

Thanks.

Currently i have about 46 brushes; one for nearly every year of my life....one of these days i'm going to take a picture of them gathered together in one array or something like that; the brushes which i don't use are displayed in a cabinet in my study (look at the gallery..!); btw: my study IS a museum according to many people... :)

I must say that there are few brushes on my shortlist at this moment; i'm thinking about CAR's brush but....nah....got my Simpsons Manchurians don't i???
If Vulfix launches a genuine silvertip brush then this will be my next one; anyway...collection speed has already slowed down a lot the last half year.... but i guess it will never become zero......

Do people like wider or thinner handles.
I have been making about 1.5" diameter handles.

What is the most critical feature of the handle that people look for?
