Well I will soon be the new owner of a pre-Vulfix Simpson Chubby 3 in Best Badger.

I traded for it and it is yet unused. It was recently traded to me and will be here in Tokyo before long. I am a big brush fan and will soon see if I am a really big brush fan...

Finally a contender for my Kent BK8. :D

I love this...

Zeth, that is a a very nice looking brush. I have often cast a longing eye at the CH3, but as yet have not made the plunge.

Zeth, Enjoy. They're plenty beefy ( chuckle ). That one has more loft than some I've seen.

I have a Chubby 3 in super, and it's a black hole to lather. Love it.

I am told that this was one of the last brushes to arrive at TGS before the Simpson hand over to Vulfix.

I would assume also that this brush is a Vulfix made brush only because Robert at TGS has said that Vulfix was making some of the brushes for Simpson even before the handover.

It may explain the taller loft.

A point of reference, this bush was apparently bought by an Englishman in the UK from TGS who never used it and was later sold to a gentleman in Australia, who never used it and sold it to another gentleman in the USA who never used it and now it is coming my way, to Tokyo Japan.

Quite a trip...but I guarantee that I am getting this one wet. No brush goes idol in my house. They all get a workout. :D

Zeth, Ah...yes. Well, I suspected as much; that is that it might be a late model, Vulfix made, but thought it would be rude to just suggest that from a photo alone. Also embarrassing if you came back that the brush was known to be seven years old, or something ( chuckle ). But yes, all the CH3s I've seen have had noticeably less loft. I'm glad that this poor thing is finally going to get some actual use. Let us know how you like it.

Gordon

Zeth, its funny how things work. I'm almost certain that that brush is the very same one that I almost bought from a gent that posts on B&B. A guy from Australia that put it up on the FS forum over there a few months back, around the time we experienced an outage of a few days here at SMF. He had told me he purchased it unused from someone else, and had yet to use it himself. If my memory serves me right, he at the time wanted a trade, something I'm not into, and was inches away from closing a deal with him for purchasing outright. Never happened. And now it's yours! That loft did stand out for it's length, the tallest Chubby I've seen. Loft looks almost the same as in my PJ3, but denser, I'd imagine. Hope you enjoy it, let us know how it performs.

It's remarkable, but the brush in the picture above looks exactly like this one....

The listing must the from the 'gentleman in the USA who never used it' of which Zeth speaks, i.e. the third homo sapiens in the brushes's lineage. If it is, hope he remembers to remove that listing before someone bids on it.

Well it's here and it is really something!

Loft measures 54mm and I measure about 28mm knot diameter.

I plan on using it first thing in the morning.

I took this virgin brush on its maiden voyage this morning. It met with a thorough shampoo and conditioning prior to its first shave lather.

I was expecting it to splay like my Kent BK8 does but it didn't. I loaded up with tabac and there was no trouble whatsoever. The brush is quite 'flat' and as I like to use only the tips to lather not forcing a breach in the brush, this makes it very very comfortable to face lather.

From start to finish it was a real treat. I don't think it took anymore soap than any of my other brushes, which I wasn't expecting.

First impressions: a very very nice brush. As I assume the knot was done by Vulfix before the hand over (I may be wrong though), I would have no problem buying another with Vulfix being the present owner of Simpson.

Time will tell how it breaks in over the next few months.

One other thing, poeple in the past have mentioned that the handle of the chubby is too small and hard to grip etc.

I followed one persons advice (that person has used only a chubby 3 for more than 7 years) and held it like one would when holding a pipe and found that that was a great way to hold it when lathering. I can't wait for tomorrow.

Use it in good health. Your 'collection' looks rather grand.
