Just noticed, INT shipping may not be available. However, you may be able to negotiate that.

The seller has told me that he would ship to the U.S., splitting the cost with the buyer. Gary Young has said that this brush is quite rare, made in the 1920s. The seller originally listed it at 250GBP, but there were no bids, so he has relisted now at a lower starting price.

Thanks John, good having people with good knowledge and insight. It's not my cup of tea, but thought somebody here might want a shout at it.

It may be rare, but its a small novelty item imo...£99 is pushing it, nevermind 250.

This Simpson "Tourist" brush may well be rare or not seen very often.

But it is not Art Deco 1920's, but from the 1960's.

"HAVE BEEN ASSURED BY SIMPSON FAMILY MEMBER THAT THIS IS A RARE ITEM."

I bet that wasn't all that Gary told him.

Charles

Where do you get the info from that this is a 1960s brush?

The Simpson decal is a 'London' one. My family did not use the 'London' decal after moving from London.

Gary, doubt you will get a reply ;-)

Around what year did the move take place to Somerset?

Marty

I tried to tell the seller about butterscotch discolouration of phenolic resins, but he replies that he can't change the listing (?) So it still says bone, which it ain't.

Marty, I think Simpsons left London in 1941, after their workrooms were destroyed by an air raid....at least that's the story I've heard in the past.

Peter, this is shocking news.
Does that mean you are whittling down your massive collection to concentrate on having only a couple of brushes?

Bruno,

I've sold many brushes over the past months, especially the smaller and most expensive Somersets and some Plissons.
They were replaced by 10 Simpsons Manchurians, 6 giant custom made Rooneys ( made by Lee Sabini), a lot of Morris&Forndrans and three genuine ivory brushes of which two new custom made.
The giant brushes and the ivories aren't meant for daily use either but the Manchurians are part of my daily rotation.
I'm not particularly fond of novelty brushes like the one above, neither were i taking part in the bidding proces of the so called "art deco" Simpson wich was sold recently on Ebay.
But i do have a weakness for genuine ivory brushes... :)
Peter
