New Whipped Dog Synthetic

Post by Bob in TX »

This is my new Jersusalem Olivewood handle with one of Larry's (Whipped Dog) synthetic knots. It is 24mmx58mm.

I am looking forward to using it.

My 4th shave with the Fat Handle Tech and my 1st shave with the WD Synthetic Brush. I decided to go with the La Toja cream. It was a great combination! The WD Synthetic face lathered like a champ. I just loaded the brush for about 5 seconds and had enough cream for a great 3-pass shave! I finished up with Speick.

Yes, Bob! Nice brush, both components just look like they were made for each other. I like it.

I wanted to try the brush using a puck today, so I pulled out the Tabac. After 3 shakes and loading on the puck for about 30-40 seconds, it gave up plenty of lather for a nice 3-pass shave. The tips are very soft and do a great job both swirling and painting.

Today, I tried the brush on the LA Shaving Soap in the jar. I just loaded it for about 30 seconds and started face lathering. It generated more than enough lather for a 3-pass shave. Tomorrow I will try it on a puck of Stirling.

Bob, I see that Larry advertises the larger of his two synthetic knots to be 65mm loft. Do you know if that includes the width of the glue plug, or is it in addition to the plug. I'm thinking it may have been set a bit shorter than 65mm because that's the height you wanted. I like mine at least 60mm or maybe a bit more. Do you think I could get that loft if I buy one of these knots and set it myself in one of my vintage handles that are laying around somewhere?

Hey Gary,

I don't know for sure, but my guess is that you can with no problem. I know he can with his other knots. I am no knot expert. To make sure, give Larry a call or e-mail him. He is great to deal with. I will look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Today, I tried the brush on Stirling Ozark Mountain. I just loaded it for about a minute and had enough loaded on the brush for a great 3-pass shave.

I just had my 5th shave with the WD Synthetic knot. I really like it. I have tried a different type of soap each day and it has done superbly with each one. I have face lathered each day. The brush loads easily, is surprisingly soft, and quickly works up a great lather. This knot is a keeper. I understand why Larry at Whipped Dog offers a refund if you try it and don't like it. I will be keeping mine, thank your very much!

Bob, I exchanged emails with Larry at Whipped Dog. He says the overall height of his knots is 65mm, which includes the glue plug. He says he attributes about 10mm to that part of the knot, which would mean the knot would have a usable visible loft of about 55mm. This is virtually identical to the loft of the Frank Shaving brush I got yesterday. Larry's 24mm synthetic knots are sold out right now, but he hopes to have them restocked in about a month or less.
