I had my EJ brush for 4 and 1/2 years. It was very good brush. Now I have to wait next month to get a vulfix 2234. West coast shaving is now available.

I've been tempted to pull the trigger on an EJ super for some time. I haven't done so because I don't have a good handle on how these brushes perform. I like soft brushes, not too dense and some backbone; my top 5 brushes are BK4, Simpson's Colonel best, Thater 4292 Silvertip, shavemac Beehive Finest and Simpson's Emperor 2 super. I would want a knot of 22mm-24mm diameter. Any suggestions?

It's a large brush, and packs a ton of lather. There is some floppiness to it, but not too much -- I'd say that it is sturdily floppy-ish if that makes any sense. I find that I need to squeeze the brush between passes to bring the lather to the top of the bristles. It is very easy to use, and can produce lather as good as any brush I own.

The version which Squire and I own are somewhat different than Chris' brush. On mine, the fan opened up a lot as the brush aged -- and I felt that was a good thing. It's a totally different brush from my Duke 2 -- way higher loft and wider knot.

Bryan it's the Ivory Georgian handle model which may no longer be in stock. I just visited the EJ site and didn't find it but if I can dig out my calipers I can post some measurements.

Did find something interesting though, EJ recommends using a circular motion to build lather with soap or cream, even with face lathering.
