The knot is very soft. I'll preserve it. It is in very good condition.

WOW! That's some brush! Apparently a 200th anniversary special with the box no less. You do indeed have a MOST generous friend....and one with damn fine taste if he bought this thing. I do love that handle style and Vulfix seems to be the only maker who still offers brushes with it.
