New Rooney Polo
A Rooney Polo 2 in Finest Badger arrived today from overseas, and it is indeed a beauty. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Re: New Rooney Polo
John, Wow!...that's some really fine looking badger bristle. And the handle certainly does look like that of a Simpson Polo, but I guess these shapes are not/can not be registered or copyrighted. Enjoy!

Re: New Rooney Polo
You're right, Gordon, the different companies did copy each other's brush shapes. I believe that Rooney actually called this model the Urn.

Re: New Rooney Polo
John, Ah!...'the Urn'...well that seems to fit. Yeah, they undoubtedly did more or less copy each other regarding handle shapes. Kent's 'T' models up until a few years back looked almost identical to the classic barrel shape that Plisson is known for and Kent also offered a 'Beehive' handle much like the one that we associate with Rooney. That is indeed a superb looking brush. I gather that Lee Sabini is still reachable and in the business of doing custom orders?

Re: New Rooney Polo
Actually, I bought this brush from a private seller in Turkey. I have had no luck at all lately getting any response from Lee.bernards66 wrote:I gather that Lee Sabini is still reachable and in the business of doing custom orders?

Re: New Rooney Polo
John, Turkey?...really?...well that's interesting. I asked because 'Rooney', as such, never offered that handle option in the US that I am aware of...and it's clearly done in their highest grade of bristle, the 'Finest' type. I wonder how long ago it was made and also what the deal really is with 'Rooney' these days? Is Lee still involved in any way?...and where are the brushes really being made and all that. Most mysterious.

Stunning brush John, worthy to be called a collection on it's own.

Re: New Rooney Polo
I have a Rooney Polo as well. It isn't as nicely shaped as the one shown. Mine has a little bump in the middle and has a kind of pyramid shape. I can share a picture later. Is that a 28mm knot? I believe mine is a size 1 at 26mm
Re: New Rooney Polo
I for one would really like to see a picture of the Polo. These are fascinating pieces of brush history.zeppelin55 wrote:I have a Rooney Polo as well. It isn't as nicely shaped as the one shown. Re: New Rooney Polo
I too would like to see a picture of yours. The knot on mine is 27-28mm (just using my eye and a ruler - I don't have calipers).zeppelin55 wrote:I have a Rooney Polo as well. Re: New Rooney Polo
Here it is. You can see the knot is kinda lopsided. Nonetheless a nice brush.

Re: New Rooney Polo
This Rooney was offered by Classicshaving in a limited batch a few years ago, i believe 2008 or so, can't remember it exactly.
It has a remarkable fine gauged yet fairly resilient kind of badger.
An extraordinary brush imo....
