Plisson HMW vintage

Post by brothers »

From the hands of someone who owned it for 20 years or thereabouts, and it has never been used. Horn handle, not the usual round shape, but a series of identical interlocking machined flat planes around the upper part of the handle, and the two piece round bottom threaded onto the upper handle. High Mountain White knot measures 29mm x 64mm. The handle measures 66.4mm. My second Plisson. Hopefully it'll survive me to become an heirloom. Just arrived today, and here it is:

Maybe I should call this one The Pentagon, because these planes on the surface are 5 sided. I agree with Squire, I've just gotta use it! :)

Gorgeous brush, Gary. Can't wait to hear how it performs.

Used to have a HMW that looked similar but was the biggest they offered about 10 years ago. It was a lathering machine. Too prickly for me so I had to give to someone else.

I am hoping maybe Buzz or even Peter (DrP) can shed some light on how old the brush might actually be or any comments relating to this design. (I trust and value any and all SMF opinions :) )

Certainly it goes back to the seventies, I haven't seen badger that contrasty in a horn handle for quite some time. The pennant logo has come and gone over the years, so that doesn't help much. Also, if it says "pur blaireau" it was likely made for the French market. Does it also say "Haute Montaigne" or anything else? Remember, though, age alone does not contribute to value...to my mind it is mostly about the knot and that looks like very nice badger, indeed.. I don't know much about horn handles, except that the tend to develop long cracks if they get too dry and the screw on bottoms can come loose over time. Our Good Doctor will know more if we can lure him out of his humidor. Perhaps if he knew I had a number of pre-Castro Partagas coronas...

Pre-Castro Partagas coronas has a poetic ring to it.

Out of the humidor...
I bought this brush on Ebay.fr i think in 2006 or so.
Don't know anything about its origins.
Could very well be from the seventies as Buzz said.
Don't know if it's HMW or EW.
It only says "pur blaireau" or "pure badger".
The handle is made from horn and can be screwn apart, like all Plisson horn handles.
