Savile Row 2122 Best Badger

Post by pausted »

I'm on the lookout for my perfect brush. Aren't we all! :D I have 6 boars, two badgers and one synthetic. I like my WD silvertip but I think it is a little bit too soft. I like the exfoliation of the boars but maybe I would like a little bit softer face feel. So I'm gonna try a badger in Best. Maybe it will hit the sweet spot. We'll see. I'm looking forward to receiving it.
Best regards,

Basil

I have several Savile Row brushes and my favorite is the 2824 best badger (24mm knot). It's a great brush and I love the shape of the handle.

The 3122 is my favorite of the SR's, but I've never tried it in Best so am interested to hear back what you think.

I have never tried a SR brush... Perhaps it's time I give it a whirl.

They are excellent brushes. I don;t believe you will regret adding one to the lineup.

I've been fortunate enough to own and use some high end brushes but if I were buying one now for everyday use it would be a best badger grade.

I'm getting the impression that this brush does not come with the same variability in soft tips and hit-or-miss scritch found in other manufacturer's Bests. So I'd definitely like to hear more about it.

Just finished my Saturday morning SOTD and the Savile Row 2122 was used. A wonderfully simple best badger brush with a "just right" handle and a mix of backbone, flow thru, and softness that makes it a delight to use. Probably the very best sub $100 badger I have had the pleasure to own. I have used it with hard traditional soaps with excellent results and today with C.O. Bigelow (Proraso) shaving cream. Fantastic!

Michael, just curious why you chose the SR Best instead of Silvertip. A closer match to your D3?

I bought it secondhand from Shave Nook BST at I believe 50 bucks. That made my decision easy. It sorta made me want other Savile Row brushes but with my Duke 3, Shavemac Americana, 18mm TGN Two Band Finest travel brush, and two Big Omega boars, I really don't want for any other brushes. The Savile Row needs time to thoroughly dry even after shaken well so it gets used maybe twice a week in "rotation". I would highly recommend one at the price it is offered at QED.

I'm weighing the trade-offs between the Best and Silvertip right now. The ST is just so soft-tipped (but with backbone) that it would hard to give that up. But the Best is making a good case for itself. I don't think Basil is going to suffer from his choice. :D

And post pictures if you can. (Not enough SR photos.) Maybe a sketch if you can't. :)

Here you go, Ron. This is the brush right out of the box. I am truly impressed. The quality is obvious, I really like the handle, the weight is substantial, all in all a very, very nice brush. I'm really glad I bought it. Now on to some good shaves.

Please forgive my not very good phone pictures.

Chris, since I use creams 2 or 3 to 1 over soaps, I plan on using the brush for the rest of the week with some of my favored creams. I'll try bowl lathering and face lathering. Then next week I'll work with some soaps. I'll keep you posted.

I'd like to know more about the Gillette in the pic. Is that a Gillette head?

Thanks,
Roger

Thanks,
Roger, It's a Gillette New Deluxe that I had replated in chrome (it was originally gold) and the head is original.

Mike
