brushes, oil, stands

Post by zebo »

Two totally different brush questions: Just got, and am loving my SR230. I'm wondering if it's OK to use a shaving oil (a few drops patted on face) before lathering and using the brush--will the oil effect the brush in a bad way?

Also, does anyone know where I could get a stand for the SR230 and Merkur Progress? I'd love a stand that holds both.

Thanks!

I was informed that oil was detrimental to the badger hairs. Here's a link to some stands http://www.classicshaving.com/page/page/522941.htm .

Hello Zebo,

Go to the General Forum and scroll down the page to my posting entitled "Shaving Brushes and Shave Oil - An Experiment".

I, personally, apply a few drops of shave oil before each pass. No irritation, I can shave against the grain and I get a moisturizing effect from the shave oil with no adverse effects on brush bristles or lathering.

I won't shave without it. It is very inexpensive. Order a bottle from Charles next time you place an order with QED. Pacific Shave Oil is virtually scentless.

Good Luck.

Cheers,
