Some old stored away brushes see the light of day again.

Got a few old brushes cleaned up so they can be used again. A few more still soaking.

From the left: an Unknown boar; a Surrey Boar (Surrey was later bought by Van der Hagen); EverReady 100 Boar; a Century Pure Badger, EverReady 300PBT Badger; MadeRite 500PB; the Peerless Pure Badger

All of these are older brushes that were stored in another box but are now soaked and pampered and ready to go back to work. The Peerless really looks just like what today is sold as Silvertip and feels as good on my face as my newer brushes. I also put the older Surrey next to a Van der Hagen that was part of a gift set given to me around Christmas and except for the color of the handle they are twins.

I have an Ever-Ready 3000PBT, myself. It has a very sparse knot and no backbone, but it does an efficient job of lathering in a bowl.

Those are some handsome old brushes. It's good that you are able to bring them back into service with a bit of tender loving brush-care.

Here are the most recent pair; an Erskine on left and Simm's on right.

So far all have been in great shape and no reason to replace the knots.

Very nice! It's obvious that you have a passion for finding and resurrecting these handsome old-timers.

There are five left to resurrect but I am amazed by how nice these old brushes have been. Only one has been a shedder, the nylons have been pretty much like modern synthetics and with many of the same shortcomings and the boar brushes odorless but since the youngest of those is still likely a half century old not too surprising.

That's a helluva rotation!

Good to see a couple of Semogues in there, as they are favorites of mine.

All cleaned up and back at work. It's amazing just how nice these old brushes are since the youngest of them is over a half century old.

I just started a new rotation so today was day seven. I'm working from the top left and so far it has bee wonderful.

From the top left I used an EverReady 600 Nylon, the tiny little Rubberset 2X Pure Badger, the larger Aristocrat Pure Badger, two Imported Badgers from Erskine, maybe my favorite old brush the Peerless (New Hampshire) Pure Badger and one of my Rubberset 400s with the original boar knot.

More next week.

This makes me want to go grab a couple of my favorite old-timers so I can dust them off and put 'em to use. It's clear that you're enjoying this rotation every day.

I do a slightly over seven week rotation, four weeks with the experienced brushes and then three weeks and a couple days with new brushes. That lets the old brushes rest between uses and also should extend the life of my newer ones.

What I have learned though is that the brushes that were being made in the US and Canada a half century ago perform every bit as well as those made anywhere in the world today.

Tomorrow I will finish with the last brush on the far right, top shelf and move on to the bottom shelf.
