Speaking of Tuxedo synthetic brush knots, I have a perfect condition Rex shaving brush handle that I've been holding onto for about 4 years or so. Yesterday I took delivery of a new Tuxedo knot from Canada. Here's my before photo. Please wish me luck, because before when I have posted a before photo before I start up with the power tools, etc., I have been known to ruin a perfectly good shaving tool through my habit of accidentally destroying perfectly good objects.

Re: Tuxedo knot reset in vintage Rex brush handle
Work in progress as the hole is cleared and test fitting has shown that the hole happens to be exactly the right size for the new knot.
And after the dust has settled, here's the finished product. It feels good in the hand and I really like the looks of it.

Nice job; looks very nice. The problem I had with my one and only DIY knot replacement was getting the residue of the the glue out of the knot hole. I had little difficulty steaming the knot out of the handle, but I didn’t have the right tools to grind out the residue. Fortunately, I have a friend who turns pens and he has the right tools to do the cleaning job properly. The brush handle is currently with him and he has dry-fitted the knot and it’s spot on.

Re: Tuxedo knot reset in vintage Rex brush handle
It took me a few years and several brushes to eventually gather up all of the tools that work best. Instead of clear epoxy with the Rex project I decided to use super glue (CA). I have a huge bottle of super glue I bought for refinishing a wooden brush handle. It was a lot simpler but it dries in seconds, which is not a good thing. I say this because when I am setting a new knot in an old handle with epoxy, I count on having 15 to 20 minutes to make sure all is well with the fit before I set it on the shelf to dry. With super glue if I get something crooked or not deep enough/too deep, etc., I have little more than about 3 seconds. This is not recommended.

After the first full month of daily use, I have no complaints with the performance and the appearance of the Rex Tuxedo synthetic.
