Dumb question on blade disposal

What is the best way to dispose of used DE blades? I thought that there is supposed to be a slot on the back of the razor package to stick them in, but unless I am missing something, it doesn't seem like my Merkur package has a slot that will fit a used blade. Otherwise, what is the safest way to toss them out?

The Merkur pack does have a slot on the end of the package. It doesn't look like it will fit but trust me it does. Although I can only fit 8 blades in a slot not ten normally.

A small coffee can with a slit in the lid also works wonders

My father told me his old bathroom cabinet had a slot on the side to drop the DE's in, they just dropped inbetween the wall studs apparently. When he remodeled, he had to clean up a rusting mass of old razors.
