As I mentioned in the other thread, nothing excites me less than a Merkur HD variant.

I like the look, but to be ideal for me, it's gotta have a narrower blade gap, a la the Gillette Tech. Now if only Merkur would make a couple of variants of the top part.

I don't like that. It's ugly.

I like it, and I’d buy one, if I knew where! I checked Lee’s Razors, but I didn’t see it there.

Call him. He'll have them in stock in 8-12 weeks. I, too, can barely contain my excitement.

Looks interesting. What kills the Merkur line for me is all the talk of larger blade gaps and aggressiveness in relation to the old school Gillettes. All the Gillette adjustables set on 3, the techs, and my favorite razor of all, the 40’s Super Speed, are in the sweet spot for me. Not feeling like messing with what for me isn’t broken.

Just like Dave, I lament on them not putting out a somewhat tamer fixed head design. Oh well, like we really need any more razors, anyhow (please spare me, just trying some self-consolation).

I agree. It's hard to go back to a fixed razor after trying the Gillette adjustables. I use mine set to 3 for a smooth and nick free shave; I do touch ups at 5 or 7 and it's a great device.

What's the fuss about? It looks like a HD with a pretty twist knob thing. Seriously, we accuse women of lesser things, at least their shoe collection comprises of different designs! :D

Any of you that don't like the Merkur head just put that handle on your favorite Tech.

So, what are the details on this razor? Is it the same head as the HD?

** EDIT: See xChris' note below about 1904 availability.**
I'm not sure I like the large ferrule on top, but otherwise it's an attractive enough design. But I hope this doesn't mean the 1904 is permanently out of production. Charles at QED has had a note on his site for a while that the 1904 is offline because the die for the handle is shot. Hopefully Merkur will retool the 1904 die; as it is, this new offering seems to fill the same "fixed-head razor with a fancy handle" niche.

As for Merkur vs. Gillette, I've used both and prefer Merkur fixed-heads, which are just right for me and my tough whiskers. Nothing against Gillette, of course.

Regards,
Doug
