Jerry,
This was a custom piece by Joe Chandler. I wanted an unusual size, in French point, linear file-work on the spine, a monkey tail, with maple burl scales. He took those ideas and made them work beautifully. I don't remember if he's a member here, but you can find him at SRP for sure.

I have a bunch of pieces that I restored and one new Filly, so the only thing missing was a custom. Since Joe already did a beautiful regrind for me, I went with him even though both Robert Williams and Lido&Luca Livi has some pimp pieces as well. As you can see, there are absolutely no regrets.. I was so giddy with excitement once I got the pics, that I couldn't sleep lol

Beautiful. Good job you like it, because if you wanted to sell it finding another chap with your name might be tough...

I had every faith in Joe when I asked him to put my name on it even before seeing the pics.. He surprised me by it going way beyond my wildest expectations. The blade is at about 9/8 (maybe just short, but not by a lot).

Hi Ilija. How are you doing?

Is this totally custom? Did he make the blade? I thought only Robert Williams was doing that.

BTW, I don't have the address handy, but Joe has his own online shop.

Can you ge the address for us?

Hi Joe,
Glad to be back home to my city, friends and bike. Did a bit of fieldwork across the border (rural NV).
The razor is completely custom. While Robert and Lido/Luca hammer-forge, Joe, Bill and Darrell do stock-removal, which should make the razors a bit cheaper. Joe's prices reflect that (but even with that taken into consideration, when you look at the quality of his work, you'd think that he should be charging a bit more). AFIK, Bill's a bit pricier, and as for Darrell, last time I checked he didn't even shave with a straight, so while I admire his knives, I'm not sure I'd get a razor from him.
For those of you who want to inquire about what Joe's offering, I just sent him an e-mail asking for permission to pm it to the interested parties. If you gentlemen wish to contact him, send me a PM. I don't see him saying no to giving his e-mail to potential customers, so I expect to be able to send it out tonight.

That is a beautiful piece. I really like the artistry that goes into these custom razors and this is a prime example.

Lol... I wish.. Actually I'm fairly happy with my rotation so I haven't made any purchases since last winter. I should get my butt in gear and get on with some projects on my project bench. When you look at the lineup:
1) Boker King Cutter 5/8, mint, just needs honing
2) Taylor's Eye Witness 4/8" FP wedge, reground by Joe, needs scales and a light honing
3) Boker Damascus 5/8, extensive resto
4) G. Butler 6/8 inox, scales
5) A whole bunch of Workman razors
(just the tip of the ice-berg), you'd think that someone'd need to crack the whip on me.

She finally arrived after a LOOOOOOOOONG wait. Ofcourse I couldn't resist shaving with it even though I knew I'd be late for work. Ah well lol...
-For starters, the workmanship is exquisite and she looks even better than on the pictures.
-Joe got it as sharp as I've ever gotten a blade and surprisingly customs people didn't mess up the edge. It was encouraging seeing the customs form label it as an "electric razor." This means they just checked the package for contraband and passed it on.
-The unusual size of the blade took some time to get used to. One distinct disadvantage it suffers over smaller blades of equal sharpness is that the downstroke in the moustache area is under a more extreme angle which makes it pull a bit. The advantage is that it mowed down a forrest of stubble with no effort.
-Overall, it's a superb shaver. Right up there with the Taylor's Eye Witness 6/8 and the Genco 9/16. The added charm of it being custom-made for me and by my specification will make it a permanent part of my and my grandkid's (assuming I have children and they children lol) rotation.
