back to the FUTUR ........part two

Post by marsos52 » Sat Jun 20, 2009 5:59 pm

sounds like the movie right!!!

i had 10 years with my futur and i say to this day, its the best shaver of all.

last year i had to go to a lighter weight razor and i have been doing real well with the edwin jaggers

the ej's are just so amazing. shaves close and comfortable and a joy to have

but last week i felt im missing the ultimate shave of the futur
i found a great deal so i made the order.

today it arrived and faster then i opened the box i put it to use..
i never forgot the feel and how a futur works.. it was like old times

wow what a great shave bbs without touch up just gets so close,
my face feels great and its like i have no beard at all

so every now and then i can break out the futur and say bye bye
to my beard

life is good with a futur and a chatsworth

OK...you have convinced me to give one a try. I'll report back in a few weeks after I have some mileage on it.

Yeah marc, pm sent last week or at least I wrote one. I usually send them from the office and often get interrupted by some mundane work related matter. Will try again.

marc,
Please give us some more detail on how you are using the Futur. I use mine most of the time but the best settings seem to depend on the blade I'm using. How do you get to bbs?
Thanks.

I change mine depending on the blade but rarely get above a 2.

hi pete

i used a futur for ten years as my only razor
last year i switched to the edwin jaggers

mainly because i needed a lighter razor and the shaves with e ej's are so good

the reason i needed a lighter razor was i had a heart attack and a stroke
and the futur was a lot to handle

now things are going well i can handle the weight i have no plans to use the futur daily but its here when i want it

i normally set the futur at 2 1/2 setting and do my three passes
and thats it

for some reason with a feather blade i find setting it to 3 is best

futur razors are happy with many blades but im a merkur blade fan
so i use them 99% of the time

my beard is full and on the heavy side and over the years i taught my self to get a bbs shave

i dont do any thing different i know my beard pattern and go from there

my technique is pretty good with close to 40 years of daily practice
but i admit i still learn along the way

hope that helps you

any help i can give just ask

marc

Thanks marc, that's just what I had in mind. I only used one Merkur blade I got as a sample and was not impressed enough to get more. I also use 3 with Feathers. It seems strange that I get fewer nicks with a more aggressive setting, but I just may be more careful and it pays off. I use lower settings with a milder blade. Can't rcall what worked for 7 O'Clocks.

Yes to what Marc said. An EJ Chatsworth and a Futur made up a rist class team of razors.
The Chatsworth is just so elegant and is a pure joy to use, but nothing gets my face smoother for longer than my Futur.
Currently my favorite blade for either is the Super Iridium. Using an SI I set my Futur on about 2.5. I get a very nice one pass shave with just a little extra blade buffing touch up around my chin.
I also like Red Personnas or Crystals in my Futur. The shave is not quite as nice, but the Israelis are cheap and easy to get, With them I go with a setting of 2-2.5, but I have to make at least two passes.
My Chatsworth does not really seem to like the Israeli blades all that much, but it shaves beautifully with a Gillette Sharp Edge Yellow.
One day I will get some of the Gillette India Blacks, I am thinking that they will be very nice.
Anyhow, Good Luck and enjoy your shaves.
Mike

for pete

hi and i dont know why feathers need a higher setting. im glad you found that also. the free blade that comes with the razor is a bad example to go by. that been said here before. i always try them, hey its free)
sometimes there ok sometimes there are not

for mike

i believe the chatsworth and the futur are two of the best razors made today i have both style heads too i can get 10 to 12 hours with the ej before i feel beard growth

with the futur, well it amazing, normally 12 to 14 hours but i have had shaves that lasted even longer my record futur shaves beleive it or not is 18 to 20 hours and i have had that long of a shave 5 or 6 times over the years i think the stars have to be in the correct order for me to get a shave like that

I have found that most of my Merkurs give me an exceptional shave with a Merkur Razor Blade. I know many of you will find that hard to believe, but it's true. I get a great but not exceptional shave with my NOS UK made Wilkinson and Gillette Swede blades and a decent shave with other blades.

When I do use another brand razor (gasp!!!), I get exceptional shaves with my NOS Wilkinson, Swedes, and Feathers.

I believe most have experienced this; some razors shave better with specific razor blades.

It is what it is...

Enjoy your shave... :D

the futur makes so-so blades seem wonderful and with a high end blades
its amazing

today i used a used derby i had laying around with the futur. 12 hours since i shaved and im still as smooth as can be

also the edwin jagger with a merkur blade is heavenly too

Marc and Pete,

I'm also using the Futur set at 3 with Feathers. I had been using it at a lower setting but one day I must have advanced it when cleaning and noticed the higher setting when I was shaving. I've been getting great shaves with it and have just kept it at that setting. I like the Futur quite a bit, maybe not quite as much as the 38C but its close. Great razor.

Since I've been using the Futur for the past month , on setting 2.5 with a swede, my razor bumps / ingrowns have SIGNIFICANTLY cleared up !!

Definitely a fantastic 'tool' and really does get the job done !
Kind Regards, Ben

Futur and Chatsworth, if I could only have two it would be them.
